📰CorSport: For the match against Crotone, Pioli studies two ideas to replace Ibra's absence.
1: Rebic as striker with Castillejo, Calhanoglu and one of Saelemaekers or Diaz behind.
2: Using Colombo as the striker and Rebic on the left wing.

Which solution do you like more? 🤔 https://t.co/7rdsEliwwt

Looking back, it's all a bit mad to think just how close Milan were to replacing Stefano Pioli with Ralf Rangnick at the end of last season.

Perhaps Pioli can count himself a little fortunate, but the truth is, he was the man that spearheaded the side's turnaround in form following his planned 'short-term' appointment in October 2019. The 2019/20 season looked set to be yet another forgettable, but a resurgence in form following the turn of the new year saw Milan finish sixth and qualify for the Europa League ahead of Napoli - seemingly out of nowhere.

The recovery saw the plug pulled on any pre-contract deal with Rangnick and subsequently saw Pioli rewarded with a two-year deal. It's precisely this reward and willingness to stick by a manager - complimented by a strong transfer window - that has put the the club in the most promising position it's been in for years. Although that isn't that difficult at this point...

Nabbing Sandro Tonali from relegated Brescia is one of the signings of the summer. While reports suggested all summer that the battle to sign the 20-year-old was between Inter and Juventus, it was Milan who managed to swoop in and complete a deal. Not only is it a shrewd acquisition on the pitch, but it does wonders for Milan's pulling power in the future as they are seemingly, once again, slowly becoming a destination for some of Europe's brightest talents.

It's a monumental beacon of hope for the club and its fans, but their business around his signing is what makes it better. As well as Tonali, Milan have loaned in young Brahim Diaz from Real Madrid, who has it all to prove after losing his way since signing for Los Blancos. They also made the loan deals of both Ante Rebic and Alexis Saelemaekers permanent, while securing Zlatan Ibrahimovic for another season.

This blend of new faces and requiring successful loanees gives the squad balance and stability. Consider that Milan also have the likes of Franck Kessie, Ismael Bennacer, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Theo Hernandez on the books too, they now have a quietly strong squad for the present and the future.

With all these names comes a sudden pressure to perform, however.

The standard has been jaw-droppingly low on the red side of Milan over the last decade, finishing as low as 10th in 2014/15. Watching the giants of Italian football fall was like watching ECW's drop in the early 2000s; once the hottest commodity in their industry and undeniably entertaining, recent iterations have been nothing short of embarrassing.

The Milan board putting their faith in Pioli puts weight on his shoulders to deliver, but with time and patience, the rewards will come.

The Rossoneri kicked off the 2020/21 Serie A season at home to Bologna and eased their way to a convincing 2-0 victory. By no means is the result one that sets the world on fire, but it's a positive start with signs that suggest things are moving in the right direction. Their first true test comes in the form of the Milan derby next month; until then, it's up to Pioli's side to pick up as many points as they can against favourable opposition.

Look, we're not saying that this season is the year that Milan rise from the ashes like a peak Undertaker and storm to a Scudetto, but there certainly is the potential for genuine progress.

Milan finally have the tools to make strides forward and prove that there's a sleeping giant ready to be awoken. The squad looks refreshed, the manager has been backed and there's a newfound positivity around the club. A consistent campaign is a must, and might just see them sneak into the top four for the first time since the 2012/13 season.

🎙️Pioli on Sandro Tonali and Brahim Diaz:" I am satisfied with their performances. They need to play and to have minutes in their legs to be ready. They are not at 100% yet, but they can help the team greatly."

🎙️Pioli:"Napoli? they're a strong team. Gattuso was good at making them play well and giving them great character. It's a top-level team but we have to think about our path and grow game after game."

TMW: Milan's initial offer to sign Hauge is €4M transfer fee+bonus. Bodø/Glimt ask for €6M. Maldini and Massara want to close and never stopped contacts. Probably by Tuesday, there could be a meeting that leads to white smoke. Hauge, for now, considers Milan as his priority.

Pioli's Milan is now 17 Games unbeaten surpassing the record of Ancelotti's 16 !! Thoroughly deserved !!
.
First half was good, but there was no end product. Rebić probably missed Zlatan's presence in the team as he looked quite isolated up front with very few good passes. Hope he's alright.
.
Alexis Saelemaekars, with all due respect to his qualities, isn't good enough to be a starter in my opinion. I mean the lad's good, works tirelessly, but lacks end product. I don't think there was a single cross he attempted went to a player. Hope Hauge comes in and we play Brahim on the right.
.
Tonali was okay in my opinion, Kessie, damn !! This guy is now probably one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the league if not the best !! He's here, he's there, literally bossed the midfield. Hakan the one pulling the strings from midfield again. Brahim did fine and happy for his first goal
.
Calabria's attacking more and more and Theo's working on his defending !! Theo's been really improved in his defending since the new season started and Calabria looked rejuvenated. Calabria still needs to work a little bit on his crosses though I guess. But Theo not attacking like hell looks really odd. Hoping he'll keep up that form of last season. Kjaer rock solid again and Gabbia partnering him nicely. Gigio had very little to do..
.
Final 15-20 minutes again we're looking a bit shaky. Crotone attacked more in these minutes than in the whole game Hoping it'll be solved once the captain returns and it won't cost us many points this season. Rafael Leão tried to make an impression after returning and i really want to see this guy get more chances than last season. He's one of those typical flair kinda players who wants to take on defenders. Colombo in the final minutes got a chance but missed it.
.
No Paquetà yet this season. Usually it is him to sub Hakan but it was Krunić today. Looks like he's off to another club. Wish him the best.
.
Team's winning, mentality looks absolutely different compared to early days of last season. Things look really exciting this season. Forza Milan !!!

AC Milan will hold talks with Real Madrid once the summer transfer window closes to talk about a permanent deal for Brahim Diaz, it is claimed.

The attacking midfielder joined on loan from Real Madrid earlier in the month, and while it is officially a dry loan a number of reliable sources have claimed that the Rossoneri will enter discussions with Los Blancos over a permanent deal as the season progresses.

Speaking on Sky, Gianluca Di Marzio (via MilanNews) confirmed that Real Madrid invested a lot of money when they signed Brahim from Manchester City and for this reason negotiations with Milan over anything other than a dry loan would have been long and tough.

Los Blancos did not want to lose control over the player and that’s why in the end a dry loan was agreed, but in the weeks after the transfer market the two clubs will try to find an agreement on an option to buy with a buy-back at adequate figures.

Milan hope to have the opportunity to buy him permanently in the future but Real Madrid have kept the right to keep control over the player.

Kessie reveals why he is called ‘The President’ by his Milan team-mates as he praises Pioli

AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie has revealed that he is called ‘The President’ by his team-mates in the locker room.
The Ivorian has become a crucial part of the 4-2-3-1 system that has worked wonders for head coach Stefano Pioli, as the central midfield pairing is such a vital cog in the machine.
After struggling in the first half of 2019-20, Kessie now covers the field better, players with more freedom and has formed a fantastic partnership with Ismael Bennacer.
After the 2-0 win over Crotone on Sunday evening – in which the Ivorian was once again one of the most impressive performers – he spoke to Sky Italy.
“Why do they call me ‘The President’? Because I’m the president of the team, the head of the locker room,” he says with a smile (via MilanNews).
“I have to thank Pioli, because he managed to give all this to the team. Now mentally we are fine and on the pitch it shows, everyone is fighting for every ball and this is what gives you the victory in every match.
“We must continue on this path and we must work without mounting our heads and with this right spirit until the end.”

Jens Petter Hauge: “I know there is contact [with Milan]. They liked what they saw from me when we played against them and what they have seen before. We just have to see what happens.”

Yesterday Pippo Inzaghi won his first Serie A match as a Benevento coach, and at the same time his brother, Simone, also won his match. The emotions were too high for the Inzaghi family ♥️

"Even while we were losing I looked over & saw my brothers Lazio scored and I was happy. Simone is an example for all us coaches & today was a beautiful day for both of us. I spoke to my dad after the match & he was crying" - Filippo Inzaghi

Lazio invited El Shaarawy to their training facilities as they're looking to sign him. He’s currently playing in China but has been allowed to discuss a loan deal with Lazio until February. He’s keen on playing his part & making the EURO squad 🇮🇹🔙

A possible solution for Hauge would be to sign him in this window and loan him to Bodø-Glimt to finish the Norwergian league season which ends in December. Bodø-Glimt are strongly poised to win the league this season [Di Marzio]

Jens Petter Hauge is edging closer to a move to Milan. The talented winger arrived at the airport earlier today for his flight to Italy. He was interviewed by a few reporters on the scene, excited about the adventure.

After Milan reached an agreement with Bodo/Glimt last night, only the personal terms are left to finalize for the 20-year-old, per TV2Sporten.

Interviewed by Aftenposten, Hauge made it clear that it will be special to become a teammate of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He also provided an update on the situation.

“I’m going down and meeting my agents now. They have a lot to update me on. I do not know how long contract we are talking about, but I expect to know more during the day,” he began.

“Of course you look forward to playing with Zlatan. He has been in the “game” for a long time and I will try and learn. I have followed him and looked up to him. If I get a career that is half as big as his, I will be happy,” he concluded.
