📊 @OptaPaolo: Zlatan Ibrahimovic, 39 years and 169 days, is the oldest player to reach 15 goals in Serie A's history 🔥🔥

AC Milan and Juventus are both still interested in the idea of signing Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo, according to a report.

A number of sources are reporting that Milan want a young striker who will arrive ahead of next season to grow under Zlatan Ibrahimovic before eventually taking the baton and becoming the main centre-forward moving forwards.

Several names have already been linked over the last few days such as Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic and Benfica’s Darwin Nunez, but now another name has re-surfaced – one that does not seem to go away having been mentioned as a target repeatedly over the past year.

According to the latest from La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Calciomercato.com), Milan and Juventus have both not given up on the idea of signing Gianluca Scamacca this summer. The Italy U21 international is currently on loan at Genoa but is owned by Sassuolo, and the paper claims that he carries a valuation of around €25-30m.

15 goals

Zlatan Ibrahimović averages a goal every 79 minutes.

Milan have only had the 39-year old for 53% of their Serie A matches, yet are in second. https://t.co/cVj8BZfTJ9

Filippo Galli, a former defender, to @Gazzetta_it: "Who struck me the most yesterday in Florence?
Tomori.
Another quality performance, the 3-2 goal comes from his great early exit.
Defensive phase, quality in setting up, we haven’t seen for a while at Milan a defender like that"

At the end of the match, the club manager of Fiorentina Antognoni contested the refereeing.

As reported by Gazzetta dello Sport, Antognoni was not satisfied with some episodes that would have conditioned the match. “Everyone saw it. Ibrahimovic did not think about the ball, he pushed Pezzella throwing him to the ground. The first goal was born like this. During the third goal, however, the lineout was assigned to us, then it was inexplicably given to Milan. I didn’t like the management of the match”. said Antognoni.

Milan are still struggling with injuries and this has inevitably affected the team throughout the season. Fortunately, despite six players on the injury list, the situation is looking a tad better starting XI-wise.

In today’s edition of Gazzetta Dello Sport (via MilanLive), there are some updates on the injured Rossoneri players. Ante Rebic is the closest to a return as the hip inflammation, forcing him to turn down Croatia’s call, is almost solved now.

He will miss the game against Sampdoria due to suspension, which is likely to be upheld despite Milan’s appealed, but he could be back in training shortly. His compatriot, Mario Mandzukic, is also improving and could be back between Samp and Parma.

As for Rafael Leao and Alessio Romagnoli, the situation is more complex and more tests will have to be done. They won’t be available immediately after the break, by the looks of it, while Davide Calabria will be out for a month after his knee surgery.

39-year-old Zlatan Ibrahimovic and 37-year-old Franck Ribery had never met in a club match before Sunday. They finally faced off, and both scored.

Gigio Donnarumma’s contract will expire at the end of the season and given his importance, it’s clear that Milan don’t want to lose him for free. However, the negotiations are looking increasingly difficult.

The goalkeeper is considered one of the best in the world and at his age, 22, there is still room for improvement. Despite his love for Milan, Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have been unable to reach an agreement on the renewal.

The man behind the stalemate, of course, is his agent Mino Raiola who is asking for €10m per year. Speaking on Sky Italia this afternoon, as cited by MilanNews, Gianluca Di Marzio explained the complicated situation and the thoughts of Raiola.

“There is a stalemate that worries the Milan fans. Milan’s offer was higher than the current salary, it must be emphasized in this COVID era. Donnarumma earns 6m and Milan offered him 7.

“He 22, one of the best goalkeepers in the world, his agent says ‘a free agent like him can go and earn 10-11msomewhere else’. He doesn’t know this, but he’s trying. So now there is a difficult phase, let’s see if this agreement can be found in the next few days.

“Then a great club like Milan cannot be caught unprepared and must start looking a bit at alternatives. Maignan, Lille’s goalkeeper, is very strong, he has a contractual deadline that makes the operation quite easy in the case, around 12-13m. Should an agreement not be found with Donnarumma, Milan’s first choice is the Lille goalkeeper,” he stated.

For now, Donnarumma will have to focus on the remaining ten games of the season, as Milan still have a chance of getting the Scudetto. However, it would be very suprising if he heads into the Euros without a certain future.

Milan got back to winning ways against Fiorentina at the Artemio Franchi with a gritty 3-2 result in a well-fought match. Down below is a tactical analysis of the encounter, which wasn’t easy for the Rossoneri.

LINE-UPS

Milan lined up with their usual 4-2-3-1 formation, while Fiorentina went with an unusual 4-4-2 formation, basically to press Milan further up the field while not compromising space on the wings when Milan countered.

FIORENTINA ON AND OFF THE BALL.

Off the ball, Fiorentina maintained a double pivot in midfield and two wide men, defending in a 4-4-2 formation with Ribery and Vlahovic pressing Milan’s two centre-backs.

Fiorentina’s 4-4-2 off the ball

On the ball, Fiorentina played an asymmetric 3-4-2-1, with Milenkovic and Pezzella staying as the centre-backs while Martinez and Caceres pushed forward as the full-backs. Eysseric and Ribery played behind Vlahovic.

RESPECT FOR RIBERY

While Ribery may be at the far end of his career, he has proven that he’s not deadwood and needs to be respected. Pioli certainly did that and assigned his best player in the form of Frank the Tank Kessie to follow Ribery like a shadow wherever he went. Kessie kept Ribery quiet for a good part of the game but was slow to react to his run from outside the box for Fiorentina’s second goal.

FIORENTINA’S PRESS AND MILAN’S COUNTER

Fiorentina, like all recent teams who pressed Milan out of the park, tried to stop the Rossoneri from building out from the back. They had Vlahovic and Ribery press the centre-backs and Pulgar press Kessie.

Fiorentina’s high press

Milan using Theo to break the press

Milan tried to break this press by passing towards Dalot and then using Kjaer to quickly switch play and have interplay between Theo and Hakan, who would break free of the pressing of Bonaventura or Pulgar.

FIORENTINA’S HIGH LINE

Once again, Fiorentina’s idea was to press and therefore they played a high line and this was easily pierced by Kjaer with a long ball over the top for Zlatan’s goal.

Notice how high the line of defence is

CONCLUSION

It was certainly nice to see a Milan so inconsistent come back from 2-1 down to a win 3-2. Hopefully, this will provide the team with the confidence to power through the last ten games and confirm the Champions League spot or even win the scudetto.

#ACMilan have reportedly offered Gianluigi Donnarumma a new deal worth €8m but have started to look around for possible replacements too.
