Interesting report from @86_longo. Says Romagnoli actually current earns €6m net per season and not €3.5m. An incremental pay rise was built into his contract in 2018 which took him from a base of €3.5m net to €6m net. No negotiations at all over a renewal.

Baresi on Giroud: ‘His approach was important’
by Football Italia
Former Milan captain Franco Baresi feels Olivier Giroud ‘can make a great contribution’ after arriving from Chelsea ahead of 2021-22.

The French striker scored a brace against Cagliari and has started both games in Serie A so far, but the 34-year-old then tested positive for coronavirus and could struggle to be back in time for the third game against Lazio this weekend.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic seems set for a return against Maurizio Sarri’s men and should fill the void after the former Chelsea man, who signed a two-year deal until June 2023 at Milanello.

Former centre-back Baresi has praised the former Arsenal and Montpellier striker’s ‘approach’ and believes he can help improve the results further.

“I have to congratulate Giroud,” Baresi told Sky Sport Italia. “He’s doing very well and has made himself available.

“His approach was important, he can make a great contribution.”

Milan finished second in the League last term and have picked up six points after the first two games in Serie A so far.

Probable line-ups: Milan vs. Lazio
by Football Italia
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Olivier Giroud and Simon Kjaer will start on the bench for Milan, while Maurizio Sarri could replace Manuel Lazzari with Adam Marusic.

Milan and Lazio meet at San Siro at 17.00 UK time.

Stefano Pioli is expected to rotate his squad ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Liverpool at Anfield Road.

Therefore, Simon Kjaer will start on the bench with captain Alessio Romagnoli and Fikayo Tomori at the back.

Sandro Tonali will get the nod in midfield along with Franck Kessié, who makes his season debut. Ante Rebic will be the Rossoneri’s sole striker with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Olivier Giroud on the bench.

Lazio’s Manuel Lazzari is not fully fit after sustaining a muscle injury before the international break, so Maurizio Sarri could replace him with Adam Marusic.

Ciro Immobile will start up front despite returning from international duty earlier with a slight injury.

Probable line-ups

Milan: Maignan; Calabria, Tomori, Romagnoli, Theo Hernandez; Tonali, Kessie; Florenzi, Diaz, Leao; Rebic.

Lazio: Reina; Marusic, Luiz Felipe, Acerbi, Hysaj; Milinkovic-Savic, Leiva, Luis Alberto; Pedro, Immobile, Felipe Anderson.
