President Yoweri Museveni has said he hopes to go to heaven.
Addressing a congregation of about 2500 Christians attending the ongoing International Catholic Charismatic Conference at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala , Museveni said he rejoined the Christian faith after a long spell of fighting.
Museveni said he disagreed with Muslims and Christians in 1965 on account of the sectarian beliefs that characterized the two religions.
"But when I returned after a long period of fighting, I found them talking about the Inter religious council of Uganda and I rejoined them. I also hope to go to……," Museveni said while pointing into the sky.
In his message loaded with Biblical scriptures, Museveni called for love and religious tolerance. He used the Biblical story of a Good Samaritan to drive his message home.
"There was a man in the bible that was beaten up by robbers and left for dead on the road. A high priest who was I think at the level of a Bishop passed by, another priest at the level of the ones you call young priests also passed by," he said to a cheering crowd, "The man was saved by a man from a different tribe and religion,"
He noted that conflicts with ethnic and religious undertones in Africa and in the Middle East as a result of the violation of God's key commandments – Love God and your neighbour.
"I told Gen. Bashir (Sudan President) my list of haram is longer than yours but I have no problem with people who eat what I do not eat," Museveni added.
