Wiper Democratic candidate Mutula Kilonzo Jnr is the Makueni senator-elect after he trounced his opponents to emerge victorious in the Friday by-election to fill the seat left vacant by his late father Mutula Kilonzo.

He garnered 163,229 votes, thoroughly whitewashing his closest opponent, Prof Philip Kaloki of NARC who obtained 9,762 votes with all the 914 polling stations reporting.

Party of Independent Candidate (PICK)'s John Harun Mwau was a further third with 6,431 votes, followed by Mr Urbanus Muthoka Katumo, who running on an independent ticket got 517 votes while Labour Party's Jane Kitundu was fifth with 387 votes in the by-election.

The by-lection had come with controversies after the IEBC Disputes tribunal blocked Kethi Kilonzo from running because she was allegedly not registered voter as required by law.

The High Court upheld the tribunal's ruling but allowed Wiper to nominate another candidate just a week to the polls, a ruling that left the IEBC in an awkward position since the ballot papers had already been printed.

As a result, IEBC was forced to stick Kilonzo Jnr's name on the ballot papers to allow him contest the elections.

"This is not a landslide victory, it is a continental shift," said Mr Kilonzo Jnr as polls suggested he had opened an unassailable lead over his opponents.

He sent an olive branch to his opponents saying that that he wanted to bring every person in Makueni on board to develop Makueni County.

"We must now strengthen leadership of Makueni as well as the leadership of the party. People of Makueni need to synergise. I cannot deliver alone. Leadership means that you bring all on board," Mr Kilonzo Jnr said.

"IEBC has done what they were required to do. It is not for us to congratulate them for doing their duty," added the Makueni Senator-elect.

Mr Kilonzo Jnr asked those who may feel aggrieved to go to court. Mr Mwau had indicated he would go to court to challenge the outcome of the by-elections.

"As far as I am concerned I was the one who was disadvantaged because of sticking my name on the ballot. I should be the one going to court but if there is someone who feels aggrieved, they can go to court," Mr Kilonzo Jnr said.

Kitui senator David Musila, a Wiper member, hailed the win and urged all the contestants in the by-election to unite for the good of the county, "We are very pleased with the results and this has proved the point that this is a Wiper county. Now would like to urge people to end the campaigning and go back to real work."

The mini-poll that kicked off between 6am and 6.30am was marked by low voter turn-out. And though slow, the electronic voter identification kits that failed during the March 4 General Election, largely worked as voters in the vast county elected a successor of Senator Mutula Kilonzo.

All candidates were optimistic of winning the contest even as Mr Mwau accused the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of favouring Mr Kilonzo Junior.

He claimed the listing of names on the ballot papers was tailored to suit one of the candidates, adding, the IEBC should be sued for presiding over a flawed electoral system. There was nothing to be proud of in the way the election body handled the polls, he said at Tangu Primary School in Kilome constituency, where he voted at 6.45am.

"The sticker in the ballot bearing the particulars of one candidate is bold and conspicuous and definitely favours a certain candidate," he complained.

The IEBC was forced to stick the name of Kilonzo Jnr on ballot papers days after they had been printed. The move elicited sharp reactions from both parties.

parliament.

Bottom line,,,,CORD got back what was theirs,,,and so,,never subtracted
anything that belonged to Jubilee,,and added to their bag.
The only beneficiaries,,at the end of all this,,, is the Kilonzo family,,,, and not
,,,,,,,the people of Makueni.

But i feel for Kethi's credibility as a lawyer,,,

Can't CORD now,,, do something about it after trying,,,to misuse her,,failed,,
and went for for her brother?????? Siasa chafu.

Let the Kilonzo's continue feeding the family's lions and cheetahs at
the tune of one million,,, a month and in that way,,,,there will be

so much development in Makueni🙂

KWANI,,,,,,HIVYO NDIVYO,,,,ILIVYO:smile-big:

Lessons For Uhuru From Makueni Polls

columnist-wambugu-ngunjiri.jpeg

Monday, July 29, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY NGUNJIRI WAMBUGU

In the Bible after King Solomon died his son Rehoboam took over. During Rehoboam’s inauguration a delegation came to see him.
‘Your father was a hard master’ they told him. ‘Lighten the harsh labor demands and heavy taxes that your father imposed on us’ they asked. ‘Then we will be your loyal subjects’, they promised.

The delegation was led by Jeroboam the son of Nebat, a man who had unsuccessfully challenged King Solomon and then fled to Egypt.
Jeroboam had returned after Solomon died and local elders summoned him to head the delegation to the new King (which suggests that his challenge against King David’s dynasty had made him a hero, at least to some).

The young King listened attentively to the delegation and then asked them to return after three days. The King then asked the older men who had counseled his father (it appears even the wisest man in the world had advisors!)

“What is your advice?” he asked. “How should I answer these people?” The older counselors replied, “If you are good to these people, do your best to please them and give them a favorable answer, they will always be your loyal subjects.”

The Bible says Rehoboam ‘rejected the advice of the older men and instead asked the opinion of the young men who had grown up with him and were now his advisers’.

The young men told him; ‘tell those complainers who want a lighter burden that: My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist! Yes, my father laid heavy burdens on you, but I’m going to make them even heavier! My father beat you with whips, but I will beat you with scorpions!’

The King implemented the advice of the young men and three days later he harshly explained to them the new rules of engagement.
When the people realized that the king had refused to listen to them they responded, “Down with the dynasty of David! We have no interest in the son of Jesse. Back to your homes, O Israel! Look out for your own house, O David!’

The people then returned to their homes, and when the King sent the head of his labor force to restore order, they stoned him to death.

Rehoboam managed to stay on as king even after this, but only two of the twelve tribes of Israel accepted him as their King; the other ten tribes got their own King and were never ruled by anyone from the house of David, thereafter. All because a new King took the wrong advise.

It has been said that President Uhuru ‘took over from his father’ President Kibaki. Kibaki was a president who focused on building the Kenyan nation, but ignored the need to build Kenya’s nationhood.

He succeeded in development such that, like Solomon, he left major physical structures behind. However he failed in building a united nation and by the end of his reign Kenya is more divided than it ever was.

In the 100 days the new ‘King’s’ government has been in power they have managed to bring down Kenya’s most powerful union, as well as stop a young popular politically naïve lady from inheriting her father’s senate seat.

But Kenyans are saying something, if the by-election decision in Makueni and the reception government officials received in Kisii is anything to go by.

They seem to be saying ‘we will not accept you to rule us how your father ruled us; change, and we will be loyal to you’.

The ruthlessness of how KNUT and Kethi were dealt with indicates that there are some young people around the new King who are telling him that Kenya will move forward if he delivers on development, and ignores the politics.

This team are telling him’; Tell the people that the time for politics is over; it is now time for development’. They are also out to mercilessly destroy anyone who challenges the king’s efforts to deliver on development.

What I wonder is whether there is another team around the new King; politically astute counselors who understand that some parts of Kenya will not move forward from March 4th 2013 until he ‘plays politics’, even as he delivers on development.

This team would be the one advising him on the need to reach out to regions like Nyanza, Coast, Western and Eastern that did not support him in the last elections, and how to genuinely engage them to make them feel part of his new government.

This is the team that must tell him, bluntly, that to achieve his often repeated mantra of uniting Kenyans and building national cohesion, he must “be good to these people, do your best to please them, give them a favorable answer, and they will accept you’.

Meanwhile the people have summoned ‘Jeroboam’ and cries of “Down with this dynasty! We have no interest in the son of Jomo. Back to your counties, O Kenya! Look out for your own house O Uhuru’ cannot be too far off, at this rate.

Lessons For Uhuru From Makueni Polls | The Star

But Kenyans are saying something, if the by-election decision in Makueni and the reception government officials received in Kisii is anything to go by.

They seem to be saying ‘we will not accept you to rule us how your father ruled us; change, and we will be loyal to you'.

There are those who voted for Uhuru and those who voted for the other side.

The other side,,,incited by their leaders,,,if they do not want to see the president,,in
their areas,,well and good,,,,so be it.

But the facts remains,,,,that in Kenya,,the government is that of Jubilee,,headed by
his excellency hon Uhuru M Kenyatta,,, recognized by all countries of the world.

Raila can continue inciting Kisiis and those who wish,,,but they are wasting their time,,for
they can do nothing about it, and only a miracle that will remove Uhuru from power,,knowing
very well that,,, these,,miracle very rare.

In Kisii,,what wrong or sin,,did the government commit????

Did the government cause those deaths.????

Didn't the government pay funeral expenses for the victims???? What else do people want????

What contribution did the CORD make,,nothing,,just incitement.

Kenya is big,,,it is not made up of Makueni and Kisii only,,this is what mr Wambugu or
whatever,,,should know

I do not see,,in any near future,,,a situation that will make Uhuru Kenyatta,,,goes on his
knees,,,, pleading with Kisii and Makueni people,, asking for forgiveness for being the
president of Kenya and not Raila,,,,pleading with them to accept him as their president.

NEVER ,,NEVER ,,,AND,,,,NEVER.

Elections are over and he does not need their votes now,,until 2018 and if they choose never to
vote for him then,,well and good,,,for they never voted him in 2013 and so no difference.

People should not waste time,,,deceiving themselves that
Uhuru needs them most than they need Uhuru.

Yes it the work of the president to bring the country together,,but at what expense should the president do that what the president do when his opponent
during the last elections are inciting their followers ?????
