Phyllis Kahn in the Aug. 9, 2016 primary election to become the DFL candidate in the Nov. election. Kahn, 79, had represented the Minneapolis district for more than 40 years since being elected as a DFLer in 1972. If Omar wins in Nov., she would become the state’s first Somali-American lawmaker in the Legislature.
