Impressed Tanzanian gives Zambia national soccer team cash

A Tanzanian national and businessman based in Dar es Salaam, Azim Dewji, has donated 11 000 US Dollars purse money to the Zambia national soccer team following the teams impressive run at the on going Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
Mr. Dewji has also promised to donate 300 US Dollars to each of the widows of the national team players who perished in the Gabon air crash in 1993, if the Chipolopolo beat the Black Stars of Ghana in the semi-final encounter today.
Mr. Dewji who is proprietor of Simba Logistics Ltd and also financial sponsor of the Dar es Salaam outfit, Simba Football Club, says that being the only country from the Southern African region still at the tournament, Zambia has not only made Zambians proud but the entire region as a whole.
Mr. Dewji said that people in Tanzania are rallying behind the Zambia national team and hope that they go all the way and lift the cup.
Mr. Dewji is an ardent soccer fan and veteran administrator in Tazania. He was main sponsor of SIMBA Football Club from 1990 to 2000, Tanzania national soccer team fondly known as the Taifa Stars, manager from 1994 to 1998, former vice chairman of national team support committee from 2000 to 2005 and chairman of the support committe from 2006 to 2009.
And receiving the donation, FAZ vice president Borniface Mwamelo commended Mr. Dewji for the donation saying that it was gratifying especially that it was coming from a foreigner who wanted to indentifying himself with the Chipolopolo boys.
Mr. Mwamelo said that such a gesture is motivating to the players because it shows that their efforts are being recognised and appreciated. He also appealed to the corporate world and the general public to emulate Mr. Dewji and donate purse money to the players.
