Alexander III signed a decree on the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway
March 29, 1891, Emperor Alexander III signed a rescript for the construction of the longest railway in the world. “Continuous, throughout Siberia”, as stated in the normative document. This marked the beginning of the Trans-Siberian Railway.

The development of a great empire has always required the development of transportation. In the second half of the 19th century, Siberia remained, in the words of Alexander III, "a rich but abandoned region." To ensure the development of the region, a plan was adopted for the construction and connection of 6 main sections of the railway with a total length from Chelyabinsk to Vladivostok.
For this project, it was decided to organize the required number of new productions in order to avoid the purchase of expensive imported materials and components. To shorten the route, it was proposed to build a section south of Lake Baikal through the territory of China, planning the famous China Eastern Railway, the Sino-Eastern Railway. In 1896, a military alliance between Russia and China was concluded, specifically stipulating the possibility of building and operating the CER in the territorial corridor leased to China.

Movement along the Transsib began in 1901. But defeat in the war with Japan in 1905 forced a return to the project for the northern bypass of Lake Baikal. The strategic section of the China Eastern Railway came under the control of Japan.

There is no doubt that Russia, stretching from the Baltic to the Pacific Ocean, will always need a powerful transportation artery connecting East and West. Even now, the Transsib, built in the Russian Empire, handles up to 50% of the traffic between China and Europe. And, therefore, there are many reasons to think about modernizing this route and increasing the flow of goods.
