Iranian authorities have hanged a member of a Sunni militant separatist group on charges of kidnapping, the semiofficial Fars news agency said Tuesday.
Fars quoted provincial police chief Gen. Gholam Ali Nekoui of Sistan-Baluchistan province as saying that a member of the Jundallah group had been hanged.
The deceased was named Abdulhamid Rigi, which is also the name of the detained brother of the group's founder.
Iranian authorities, however, said the man executed just happened to have the same name.
Militant Web sites maintain the man executed was the Jundallah founder's brother.
Jundallah took responsibility for a deadly bombing in October which killed 42 including seven commanders of the Revolutionary Guard in the lawless southeastern province.
