Is It In Kenya Only That This Happens?

As you may already know Kenya conducted her census last week. The last time this exercise was done was 10 yrs ago; the results though have never been officially released to date. As she conducted her census, the country is spending Ksh. 7.4 Billion! Yes 7.4 Billion. The amount may be paltry compared to the gains a country can get from the benefits of having correct data for planning purposes. However, as the exercise was going on, more than 10millions Kenyans were facing or being threatened by starvation. People are feeding on cactus, wild rats, donkeys, baboons, wild tubers, tree backs and even dogs and pythons! The government found the money didn’t deem fit to postpone the exercise and assist the masses, but believe it or not, the finance minister was out begging to the West for around Kshs.2Billion to help the dying population. On the census questionnaire people were being asked to indicate their tribes.

Does this happen elsewhere? What is your take on Kenyan priorities?

i think the point you are trying to make is why use Ksh 7.4 billion for conducting a census then go to ask for Ksh 2 billion to feed the hungry right? Basi with your logic no country in Africa should hold a census because no matter how much you spend someone can look at it and say the money could have gone elsewhere. So the postponing you are suggesting would be a permanent one. Mimi naona if the data from the census would be beneficial to the majority in the long run then by all means let them hold one.

By the way do you know that if people like you and me cheeped in a little of what we make then our governments wouldn't have to beg foreign countries for money to feed the poor? The gov'nment can't do everything and that's one thing some of as fail to see and comprehend.
