In Summary
Dr Willy Mutunga said the move by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) is an effort at implementing the Constitution in letter and spirit.
The Chief Justice has supported a campaign by lawyers to rally Kenyans to reject candidates of questionable integrity in the March 4 General Election.
Dr Willy Mutunga said the move by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) is an effort at implementing the Constitution in letter and spirit.
He said the LSK report titled ‘Realising Integrity Law; Walking the Talk', the impetus behind the campaign was a compilation of several reports by credible commissions set up over the years.
"The report supports implementation of the Constitution," the CJ said on Wednesday at the Supreme Court.
The report which was released last week calls on Kenyans to reject leaders who have been implicated in several scandals saying they are unfit to hold any public office.
They include a presidential aspirant, a running mate, permanent secretaries, MPs, provincial administrators, top police and military officers, lawyers, diplomats, Cabinet ministers and tycoons.
Dr Mutunga threw his weight behind the campaign that will see the LSK mobilise its more than 10,000 lawyers countrywide to conduct a two-day pro bono work in early February.
"I want you to support the campaign," said the CJ while addressing 45 lawyers he swore into the Bar.
