Of course the word is changing, what did you expect.
But to say there is more war and stabbings is to look at the picture wrongly, can you say there is a higher percentage of stabbings and warfare? Because with an increase of the population one would expect these things to increase, the more pressing question is what is the rate of these incidents compared to past rates.
Everything changes, even the argument that the only thing that does not change is change is fallacious, because even change changes its rate of change.
And of course, as the eminent philosopher pointed out above, the advent of the 24 hour news cycle, 1000 cable channels (where even nails have a special channel) and the ubiquitous internet, sometimes forced upon you through promiscuous wireless signal, does not help conceal and actually blow out of proportion some of the apparent changes.
