Christian Front in Lebanon rejects Iranian encroachment and calls for UN intervention
BEIRUT — The Christian Front in Lebanon released a statement following a recent meeting addressing various issues and developments in the country. One of the primary concerns highlighted in the statement is the ongoing Iranian encroachment on Lebanon’s sovereignty through its proxy, Hezbollah. The Front also criticized the irresponsible decisions made by the Lebanese government, which have resulted in violations of Lebanese laws.
During its meeting, the Christian Front expressed its strong opposition to the statement made by Iranian Minister of Cooperatives, Labour and Social Welfare Seyyed Sowlat Mortazavi who claimed that Lebanon is part of the “Islamic nation” and should be protected accordingly. The Front firmly rejected Iran’s ambitions to assimilate Lebanon into its Islamic nation, emphasizing that Lebanon is a diverse country with multiple ethnicities and religions.
In response to this claim, the Christian Front called upon sovereign deputies from all sects to unite and issue a joint statement. They also urged these representatives to seek the intervention of the United Nations and major countries by placing Lebanon under Chapter Seven. This measure would enable the liberation of Lebanon from the occupation it faces through military force.
The Front further expressed its deep regret over the tragic incident that took place at Qornet Sodé (Martyrs’ Summit), in Bcharre, resulting in the martyrdom of two young men, Haitham and Malek Tawk. However, they commended the wisdom shown by the residents of Bcharre and Bekaa Sefrin in resolving the conflict that aimed to fuel tensions between Maronites and Sunnis.
Highlighting the alarming security threat posed by Hezbollah, the Front emphasized that the group is stationed in the region with their barricades directed towards Bcharre. These barricades control key positions within Lebanon, including the strategically significant Qornet Sodé, the highest peak in the Middle East. The Front emphasized the urgent need for action to address this security concern.
In addition, the Christian Front criticized the decision made by Prime Minister Najib Mikati to form a committee to study real estate disputes instead of allowing the judicial authorities to resolve these matters. The Front stressed that such decisions should be within the jurisdiction of the judicial system, not political entities. They also renewed their trust in the Lebanese Army and called upon it to prevent the presence of militia forces in the summit areas.
The Christian Front’s statement reflects the concerns and demands of many Lebanese citizens who are determined to protect their country’s sovereignty and preserve its diverse identity. Their call for international intervention demonstrates the urgent need for decisive action to address the growing threat to Lebanon’s stability and security.
