In a bid to make sure that members of the Constituent Assembly attend the ongoing Assembly's committee meetings and attain the two-third quorum, President Jakaya Kikwete has said that there is no need for ministers to tag along in his current tour across the country.

President Kikwete was quoted as saying that he shouldn't be reason for poor attendance in committees meetings, insisting that he does not need them to tag along and that Permanent Secretaries to the ministries could join him instead if necessary.

Kikwete said this recently in Dodoma during CCM's Central Committee meeting which was concluded a few days ago.

Explaining further, CCM's Secretary for Ideology and Publicity, Nape Nnauye said: "the Central Committee is calling on members of the Constituent Assembly to attend their committees' meetings as well as those of the special Assembly and participate in all discussions while putting the national interest first so as to eventually give the nation a constitution that is expected by all Tanzanians."

The question of attaining the two-third quorum during committees' meeting has been an issue since the Constituent Assembly resumed its meetings in Dodoma earlier this month to the extent of delaying commencements of the meetings and sometimes postponing the meetings altogether.

The absence of some Constituent members has also made it difficult to attain the two-third quorum for some chapters of the Draft Constitution. It is reported that ministers are the notorious absentees in their committees' meetings.
