Some of the vehicles at the Port's G-Section being crushed on Thursday. They were said to have stayed unclaimed for more than ten years. Kenya Revenue Authority intends to crush more than two hundred cars by the end of December.

A Kenya Ports Authority security officer and a senior police officer walk past some of the crushed vehicles at the Port's G-Section as Kenya Revenue Authority resumed crushing more vehicles at the port of Mombasa on Thursday. My take:

Instead of crushing the cars, jamaa wangezitia mnadani
watu wakafaidi. But yet again there go the skewed ideas
of some of our policy makers.

LACK of imagination at its highest order. Thanks Ab-Titchaz at least we know what we have in EA.

Mkuu Ab, I don get it.
If they didn't need the monies from auctioning the vehicles, they could have let the 'wananchis' get (scramble for) the cars for free...at least instead of incurring the crashing costs.
May be something is missing in the story, that they are 'recycling' the cars rather...or the conditions of the cars don get past the Kenya's environmental standards for used cars (if they have any).

Roya Roy,

acha nikupe masikitiko ya hii ishu.

Haya magari yanayobamizwa yalikua Bandarini tangu niko Kenya sijakula safari.Watu (locals) tukawa tunasema magari yatiwe mnadani watu wafaidi lakini serikali ya Moi haikuona kama ni ishu poa maana hawangepata posho..it was strictly meant to benefit wananchi.

Sasa tunaona baada ya 10yrs of these cars languishing at the port, kaja mtu na akili punguwani akaamuru magari yabondwe into pieces.Ujinga ni kwamba the people have lost and the govt has incurred expenses instead of monies...kweli wajinga ndio waliwao.

Afu pia mkuu, asikudanganye mtu Kenya kuna "environmental standards" when it comes to cars and such...magari yanafuka moshi utadhani yanatumia kuni ku-run their engines.

P.S. Word is that pembe za kikweli zilikula kona naswi tukazubaa kwenye TV huku jamaa wanachoma plastiki!

Kichuguu,

Heshima natanguliza.

Kuna mtu hapo alifikiria anawakomoa watu wengine kumbe anajikomoa mwenyewe.

Interesting to see, hawa wote walishindwa kulipia gharama za kuondosha magari bandarini?

Almost 95% of CIF price for the 1999-2003 cars!

Ab,

Is there anything positive you can talk about your country??

Kenya+Uganda+Rwanda = EAC, Maana wanafanana fanana eti, at least Rwana wana strategy na new vision .

Tanzania EAC?? -God forbid!

Really? At least that was 'brilliant', but those aren't plastic cars.

This is strictly from my powers of observations and logic. I could be wrong.

* Car bodies don't rust in Afrika, and thus can last long.
* Cars in the pictures seems 'stripped' of all valuables, including engines by the way they crush... doesn't it look like a hollow hood? Do you notice the cars with tyres, have bad tyres?
* Afrikans aren't wasteful, and I can't think of any race that recycles better than Afrikans.

Therefore, it is my opinion that these aren't good cars at all, and in fact, are skeletons that were occupying space that could be valuable for other things.

Mkenya,

Kenya is not my country kwa taarifa yako.

Nchi iliuziwa wakikuyu na wahindi..wengine wote
ni walalahoi tu na wabangaizaji.

What postive things can you say about a country that
is awash with corruption and thiefery?Kura za '07 ziliibiwa na
Kibaki in broad daylight 'afu unataka nije hapa kusema kitu
chochote postive kuhusu mahayawani kama hao?Where do
heri kuiepua kutoka jinamizi linalokuja.

Baaden.

Roya Roy,

f'lani mtalii (Julie Ward) kutoka Uingereza ambaye ali-stumble upon
something wakati anatalii mbuga....whatever she stumbled
upon caused her to loose her life under very brutal circumstances.
zimekamatika.

Kama hamna unataka adanganye?

Icadon,

afazali umemwambia...nchi waliiiba hawa wahuni afu
wanataka eti watu watembee huku nje wakisema eti
"najivunia kua mkenya"...ukatuni mtupu aisee!

...afu pia kama ulivyomuuliza je anataka nidanganye?
akitaka hizo positive story mwambie akamsilikilize

Invii,

hapo ndo balaa yenyewe. Why would they charge a high CIF price
knowing itakua kikwazo when it comes to people getting their
cars out of the Port?By the time gari linafika bandarini hua lishalipiwa
na hizi CIF price tags hua ni wizi tu.Imagine if an individaul can come
up with CIF mpney then unapoteza gari ijapo ulikua ushaitolea hlea
kibao?...Reality ni kwamba sio wengi wenye hela na the Govt would
be doing justice by lowering these prices especially kama gari ni la
domestic use.

Kwanza huwezi ku iport gari older than miaka minane
