JKIA to be turned into an Airport City

Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia has revealed a plan to turn Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) into an airport city.

Speaking on Citizen TV, the CS indicated that this is part of a plan to have JKIA as a transit hub of choice.

"As you can see, we have hotels coming up in JKIA, and this will continue," he stated.

"For instance, if you are on transit and you have 6 hours in Nairobi, you don't have to stay in the lounge. You can book into a hotel and spend the night," the CS added.

The CS further revealed that the government has began the process of constructing an express highway connecting Westlands to JKIA.

"If you are in the country for the three days, and you want to enjoy the city, you don't want to be stuck in traffic jam for hours," CS Macharia.


  • According to Macharia, the expansion of JKIA will see the country enjoy similar benefits as Dubai which is a popular transport and tourism destination.
    The Transport CS further indicated that engineers were already planning the takeoff of the Westlands-JKIA elevated highway.
    "The work is set to commence early 2019. This is happening, its not just plans," he added.

Kenya dreams and plans big. JKIA to be connected via rail and now a superhighway to Rironi.

We don't get excited by a single terminal like some people I won't mention.

One thing I don't hear with our neighbours is major projects by the private sector. While Kenya sees infrastructural projects like those at JKIA as a means to bring private money on board, Tanzania sees their infrastructure project as an end by itself.

That's why here in JKIA, better infrastructure has seen Hilton open a hotel inside the airport, others are following.

But it goes to show the different views of development in Kenya and TZ, and shows the remnants of ujamaa. Kenya moves on private money, while Tanzania moves on government money.
 
After greenfield terminal n second runway failed! Now a city Airport. 😅☝

I had thought mnajenga Greenfield Terminal. Kumbe you are talking of Hotels and express way which TZ is almost doing the same🤣🤣🤣
