Johanna Konta has failed in her bid to become the first British woman to reach the Wimbledon final since Virginia Wade won in 1977. Konta lost to her childhood idol and five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams on Centre Court 6-4 6-2. The 37-year-old will eclipse her sister Serena as the oldest women's champion of modern times if she defeats Spain's Garbine Muguruza on Saturday. Muguruza, seeded 14th, steamrolled Magdalena Rybarikova 6-1 6-1 to book her place in the final earlier today. Konta had been cheered on by boyfriend Jackson Wade, as well as Speaker John Bercow, Dame Shirley Bassey, rapper Dizzee Rascal and Sophie Countess of Wessex (right) - [Dail Mail}
