Few hours after President Donald Trump of the United States of America confirmed that Americans have started to move around amid COVID-19 pandemic, President John Pombe Magufuli has been branded a genius.
A video making rounds on social media that showed Trump predicting victory and rapid growth of the American economy has triggered Tanzanians to label Magufuli as a smart president of the current generation.
Tanzanians led by celebrated singer Diamond Platnumz have lauded Magufuli for not 'copy-pasting' what surrounding nations were doing in curbing the spread of COVID-19.
Diamond noted that some problems should be solved as per the country's history and not doing exactly like other countries would be doing.
"I hope now you understand how Smart and Genius my President John Pombe Magufuli is....sometimes we need to solve our Family matters according to our family nature and not Neighbors," he said in a captioned to Trump's video shared on his official Instagram page.
After the COVID-19 pandemic was confirmed in Tanzania, Magufuli took a controversial measure that sparked mixed reactions across the world.
While other nations including Kenyans and Uganda banned worshiping from various religious places like churches, mosques, temples among others, Magufuli allowed such services to go on uninterrupted.
Dr. Magufuli also failed to lock down key Tanzanian cities that had recorded higher cases of COVID-19, including the Capital of Dar es Salaam.
His latest controversial move is when he ordered and received Madagascar herbal medicine linked to treating to COVID-19.
Magufuli went ahead and ordered the drug even after the World Health Organization (WHO) had warned countries from using it.
