Some Jubilee leaders have come to the defence of Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru over Sunday's attacks by Opposition leader Raila Odinga, who has demanded her resignation over the National Youth Service (NYS) scandal.

The MPs faulted Raila for allegedly waging a war against Waiguru, whom they said had done nothing wrong over the Sh791 million NYS scam. On Sunday, Raila said the CS should take personal responsibility for the theft of millions of shillings meant for the NYS.

Starehe MP Maina Kamanda and nominated Senator Beth Mugo said Ms Waiguru was 'a victim of her own successes' at the Devolution ministry. "I want to tell Raila that he cannot be a prosecutor and a judge at the same time.

If he wants Kenyans to trust him, he should give any information he has to the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission. He should not be seen to be interfering with everything that the Jubilee government is doing," said Mr Kamanda.

"The allegations that Waiguru is being shielded are false and unfounded because it is the CS herself who called for investigations into the conspiracy to defraud NYS," said Ms Mugo.

Last Friday, Waiguru released an investigation report confirming a conspiracy to defraud NYS of Sh791 million. The revelations saw 21 officers, including Deputy Director General Adan Harakhe suspended. Raila however, turned the heat on the Government, accusing President Uhuru Kenyatta of shielding the CS from responsibility.

Speaking separately, Opposition MP Abdikadir Aden (Balambala) supported calls for Waiguru to take personal responsibility for the loss of the money.
