Juve accept need to spend

Juventus general manager Beppe Marotta believes the squad requires improvement during the summer if they are to challenge for honours next season.

Juve are currently languishing in seventh place in Serie A after a string of disappointing results, including throwing away a 2-0 lead to struggling Cesena on Saturday.

Marotta told La Gazzetta dello Sport that to solve the shortcomings of this season the club needs to lure four big-name signings in the summer.

"Juventus need at least another four great players. Above all, people of experience who know how to better manage the most difficult situations," he said.

Champions League qualification is now the ambition in the remaining weeks of the season as the 2-2 draw at Cesena followed three straight league defeats at the hands of Lecce, Bologna and AC Milan.

That run of results has seen the Juventus supporters turn on manager Luigi Del Neri, who was quick to dismiss the backlash from the crowd, telling the club's official website: "The whistles? They are part of the game. Maybe let them applaud after the final whistle.

"We played well in midfield [against Cesena] and I know that this team can work well from now until the end of the season."

Serie A 2010 - Week 30 20/03/11

Juve 2 - brescia 1

Match Report from Football-Italia.net:

Juventus finally ended their winless streak and could thank a wonderful Alessandro Del Piero solo effort, as he slalomed past defenders from the centre-circle.

The Bianconeri were in dire straits and entered the Olimpico to a chorus of jeers from their own fans after one point from four rounds. They were leading 2-0 at Cesena last week before Marco Motta's red card led to a 2-2 draw. Motta was therefore suspended with Vincenzo Iaquinta, Paolo De Ceglie, Felipe Melo, Leandro Rinaudo, Momo Sissoko and Fabio Quagliarella injured.

Brescia held Inter to a 1-1 draw last week and only a late saved penalty prevented their victory. Hitman Andrea Caracciolo sat out a ban with Perparim Hetemaj and ex-Juventus defender Jonathan Zebina, so there had to be a very new partnership in attack.

The Rondinelle had lost their last four visits to Turin, picking up a point in April 2001 with Roberto Baggio scoring against his old club.

A diving Alessandro Matri header was straight at the goalkeeper, while Simone Pepe drilled wide. At the other end Nicolas Cordova's free kick struck the side-netting with Gigi Buffon static.

The goalkeeper looked rather anxious, as he fumbled a set piece and had to flap the loose ball off Eder's foot.

Juventus took the lead with a wonderful solo effort from Milos Krasic. The ball was flicked up into the air by Matri on the edge of the box, where Krasic unleashed a fierce right-foot volley to surprise Arcari.

Brescia equalised just before the break thanks to some awful defending. There were huge gaps as the unmarked Eder was allowed to knock an Adem Vass cross past the on-rushing Buffon.

Alberto Aquilani's weak effort was easily smothered, while Giorgio Chiellini ran on to a ball over the top and was stopped by a well-timed Mareco tackle in the box.

Eder went close with a long-range screamer that whistled just past the upright with Buffon flying across the face of goal.

Alessandro Del Piero scored a sensational solo slalom, as he picked up at the centre-circle and dribbled through the Rondinelle jerseys before stroking it in at the near post with the inside of his left foot.

Brescia went down to 10 men as Mareco - already booked - blocked off Matri's counter-attack.

Luca Toni came off the bench and almost scored immediately, as his header from a corner was palmed out from under the bar, but the easy follow-up from a yard was wasted because teammates Giorgio Chiellini and Krasic crashed into each other.

Scorers: Krasic 23 (J), Eder 42 (B), Del Piero 67 (J)
