Cord leader Kalonzo Musyoka has presented the nomination certificate for the Homa Bay Senate by election to Moses Kajwang' at Orange House on Wednesday.
"I wish to thank the elections board for midwifing this process. Colleagues who have supported me, thank you. The winner of this nomination is a victory for the youth of Kenya. We are capable of doing better," Kajwang' said while accepting the certificate.
He extended an olive branch to other aspirants who lost out on the ODM ticket to work with him to clinch the seat in the by-election slated for February 12.
Shortly after ODM announced on Wednesday that Kajwang' was the partys candidate in the election, Silas Jakakimba who was also vying for the ticket promptly resigned from the party. Jakakimba had once served as an aide to party leader Raila Odinga.
Kalonzo told those who lost not feel like the end of the world has come. He said that he was sure that the people of Homa Bay County will give Kajwang' a resounding victory like Makueni did to Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior. Kalonzo said that Ford Kenya and Wiper will not field candidates in Homa Bay.
"This is the time CORD should stand together as one for the better. We have to strengthen the CORD affiliate parties," Kalonzo said. He added that the IEBC must be reformed considering the news of the Chickengate scandal. "Heads have to roll and a new beginning starts," he stated.
