Kenya Airways has cancelled flights scheduled for Sunday to Juba, Mombasa, Kilimanjaro, Lusaka, Maputo flights after several outsourced crew failed to report to work.

In a statement issued Sunday morning, the national carrier said the staff, including cabin crew had stayed away from work since Friday due to issues with their employer.

“As per the safety regulations that the airline abides to, minimum number of cabin staff per aircraft type is require and on some of our flights we were unable to reach these levels,” the statement said.

The cancelled flights are KQ 600 to Mombasa, KQ 432 to Kilimanjaro, KQ 350 to Juba KQ 706 to Lusaka/Harare and KQ 740 to Maputo while flight KQ 782 to Livingston/Cape Town was delayed.

The statement added that travellers in the affected flights would be re-booked on other flights or airlines.

The airline is grappling with a strike threat by members of the Kenya Airline Pilots Association (Kalpa), who have said they will down their tools on Tuesday despite a court order barring the industrial action.

Should the pilots go ahead with the strike, this could be a financially costly standoff for the troubled airline that is trying to fly out of turbulence.

Air Tanzania ni ujinga ipi hiyo??It can not even compete with an airline doing Eldoret-Kitale-,Lodwar routes.....Not even with coast bus.Turnover ya Coast Bus is waaay Bigger than Air Tanzania's....Acha kujiabisha na hadithi za lila na fila

Wewe unabweka tu hapa hujui hata issue za uchumi. Kuna long term plan na short term plan.
Halafu kumbuka Rwanda airway imeanza kuwakalisha

Kwikwikwi. Sisi Target yetu ni kwamba watalii wanakuja moja kwa moja TZ na sio kupitia Nairobi.
Nakuomba chukua tu popcorn uangalie picha linavyoenda. Utaipenda tu TZ.

We are heading in Africa by 7.9% the second you are tailing with 6% growth rate.

Pole.

You have figures with you, bt you're missing the point.

While it may be true that you are growing at 7.9% and Kenya at 6%, catching up with Kenya's economy is an impossibility. It would only be possible if TZ kept the pace, while Kenya did 0-2% for ten or so years. And we both know that's not happening. Kenya's gdp in 2015-2016 financial year was 63.4Billion USD while that of Tanzania was 44.9Billion USD.

Also not forgeting that Kenya's per Capita ratio is still way Higher that Tanzania's.

Its very much impossible for TZ to catch up with Kenya's economy. The numbers simply dont allow.

Kenya Airways suspends Abuja, Gaberone routes

Kenya Airways will from mid next month (November 15) suspend flights to Abuja and Gaborone as part of a raft of changes to its route network in the winter season which begins on October 30

KQ, as the airline is referred to by its international code, did not indicate when flights to the two cities will be reinstated, if at all.

“As part of its network restructuring flights to Abuja, in Nigeria, and Gaborone, Botswana, will be suspended as offline destinations effective November 15,” chief executive Mbuvi Ngunze said in a statement.

Africa accounts for 60 per cent of KQ’s turnover.

Kenya Airways pilots insist on strike
  • Despite a court order barring the strike, the Kenya Airline Pilots Association (Kalpa) has said its members will not work come Tuesday November 18, 2016.
  • Two weeks ago, several passengers on local routes were inconvenienced after several flights were either cancelled or delayed.
  • Unless a solution is reached in good time, Kenya Airways will on Tuesday be forced to book travellers in hotels or reimburse money already paid for tickets
  • And with a solution not in sight and KQ inching closer to what could be its biggest industrial action by its workers yet, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has waded into the crisis urging the parties involved to seek a solution as the situation is already hurting the country’s economy and air safety record.
