The kenyan government will increase maternity services allocation, due to the projected growth in pregnancies resulting from the covid19 crisis.

The president said this in interviews with radio station journalists at state house.

He said couples are spending more time together and this will result in more maternity admissions.

Currently maternity services are free in government hospitals, but the projected influx of pregnant women will definitely need more money to be allocated for maternity services.

β€œWe must ensure we increase our maternity budget. I passed by Pumwani Maternity the other day and I was telling my friend that we must expand the facility because for sure I know there will be a lot of work,” the President said amid laughter.

75% of births in kenya are carried out in a hospital this is largely attributed to the free maternity services and the universal health care programme.
