The Kenyan shilling strengthened to its highest level against the dollar since May 2016 on Tuesday, traders said.

The shilling was quoted at 100.35 per dollar, up from Monday's close of 100.60.

Traders attributed the strengthening to banks cutting their dollar holdings.

Cash ratio reserves
"People are unwinding long dollar positions to fund their CRR (cash ratio reserve) positions on the money market side and also we are approaching due date for tax obligations which banks will be remitting to CBK," said a trader from a commercial bank.

The shilling has been firmer this year, mainly due to the reduction of political risk after last year's presidential election, which has boosted foreign investment inflows.

The hard currency reserves held by the central bank have also risen to record highs.

After boosting foreign reserve to improve liquidity via taking painful loans through Euro bonds e.t.c

Shilling strong due to The temporaly Tax break given by EU on flower import plus ofcourse CBK has $2bn From eurobond.
Very silly reporting bordering on gutter press

faida za handshake RAO/UK zinaanza kuonekana

That handshake has its magic, let's hope it lasts, I really hate when the country is held hostage by politician.
A simple handshake has caused our shilling to strengthen.

You clearly did not understand what thisdayes said. A weak Currency Favours exports, a Strong currency Favours imports. Tz is Fast moving towards import substitution and focus is on exports.
You need some schooling

Wewe utakuwa mwehu.

Mipovu inawatoka tu, nendeni kaangalie balance of payment ya TZ kuanzia 2015 mtaelewa vizuri. Vitu haviwezi kubadilika ghafla tatizo lenu liko hapo, ndiyo maana kila siku mna taka muone SGR ya TZ. Mfano Kenyan exports to Tz ziko at all time low unazani hiyo ni bahati mbaya! ni kweli tulikua na bado tupo kwenye hali mbaya ila jitihada za makusudi zinafanyika. Mfano mpaka 2020 mpango ni Tz kuzalisha sukuri nyingi kuliko mahitaji yake na sasa hivi viwanda vinajengwa there fore hakutakua na importation of sugar tuta anza ku export sugar. 96% ya dawa tuna agiza ila mpango by 2025 tuwe tuna agiza only 50%. Mifano ni mingi kila sector importation zinaenda zikipungua.. Sector ya ujenzi(nondo, gypsum, tiles, cement hii tumesha malizana nayo) kilimo (mbolea, matrekta) e.t.c. and ofcourse our low currency will come handy, infact its handy already go to the nearest store ask for azam energy drink you will comprehend what i have been trying to say all along.

Goodluck educating fools. They only think of imports, thats why instead of growing food, kenya is looking for an alternative routes to transport imported Maize.

Typical Tanzanian rhetorics ....tuta, tume, tuki,

You only deliberately lower your currency if the trade deficit is highly in your favour by a big margin. You DO NOT lower it before that happens. Or else you just hurt yourself... in 2016 you exported products worth $4.7B while importing $7.8B leaving a trade deficit of $3B... thats simple maths, losering currency now means this you brobably spent like $3.5B tanzanian equivalent to buy $3B worth of goods. ... So wacheni hizo theory za kijinga eti you did it on purpose, The truth is Tz economy is not in control of its currency

Making sure that Currency is weak is a policy intervention for a government agressively pursuing import substitution through industrialisation. Its an incentive to local industries to manufacture goods previously imported. JPM is agressively pursuing import substitution
