Uhuru said this much when he visited SGR at Mtito Andei about a week and half ago Jan 23rd 2015.
Quote:
Today I inspected a section of the Standard Gauge Railway at Mtito Andei and later toured a plant for manufacturing rail sleepers and bridge sections.
The whole region is yearning for the completion of the Mombasa-Nairobi section of the railway. I called on the employees to dedicate themselves so that the project is completed according to schedule.
The 472 kilometre Mombasa-Nairobi phase of the project will be completed in three years. The next phase will be the 505 kilometre Nairobi-Malaba route to be followed by the 132 kilometre Kisumu branch line.
Besides the northern corridor SGR routes, my Government will also build the LAPSSET corridor Standard Gauge Railway, which will consist of the Lamu-Isiolo route (1,350 kilometres) and the Nairobi-Isiolo route (700 kilometres).
I noticed with Lapsset he mentioned the lines terminating at Isiolo. He did not mention it continuing to Juba(Nakodok) and Addis(Moyale). I am guessing after finishing the above routes, they will have to recharge before tackling the beast that is Northern Kenya.
Either way just completing the ones he mentioned will still be a momentous task and a big step forward for Kenya
