Kenya to lower age limits for imported vehicles from current 8 years

The government will formulate a policy to further limit the importation of second hand vehicles in order to allow domestic assemblers to compete more effectively in an effort to support local industry. Speaking at the official opening of spare parts manufacturing plant by Autosprings East Africa, the Cabinet Secretary of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives Adan Mohamed says they will engage motor vehicle stakeholders as they seek to impose age limits on second-hand vehicle imports.


Good move this will create more jobs as more vehicle manufacturers will set camp in Kenya and the product quality will also improve.

We are going back to the good old days when Kenyans used to buy brand new vehicles and the local industries were thriving. Wacha tufufue viwanda vyetu, make Kenya great again.

Number of population then was not as big as it is today, wages hasn't risen to level of inflation for a very long time. Huyu CS anataka kuwatiwa watu umasikini wa kukopa pesa kununua magari mapya halafu washindwe kulupa, watu wanyanganywe magari. He needed a stronger case than just saying kulinda kazi za viwanda vya ndani. What about kazi zingine nyingi kuliko hizo za viwanda zitakazo kufa kama wakibadilisha hii sheria.

Matatu business will be heavily affected, fare prices for passagers will go up pushing inflation higher. Silly economics

Nyinyi endeleeni kuimport gari za 20 years old wacha sisi tuzoee mpya, zitakua mingi mpya and soon zitauzwa 2nd hand ambayo itakua cheap because hakutakua na import duty involved. Kama brand new polo vivo ni 1.6 m iliuzwa 2nd hand wengi tuta afford magari. Tushaona mbele na tutaenda mbali.

Wewe unadhani Wakenya hawana pesa kama watanzania? Kama mmekua mkiimport za 20 years sisi tukiimport za eight years na bado tumezinunua kuwashinda.

Haujui EAC rule ya kuingiza magari kutoka nje, Tanzania haiko mbali na Kenya wote wanafuata EAC rule.

Sisi hatufwati EAC rule, Uganda na TZ si mlipinga common rule ya hio issue. Uganda sahii ndo wanafikiria kupunguza ziwe nane kama Kenya. TZ hatujaskia habari zozote kuhusu hio issue.

Hapo inasema rules za condition of car and test performed before importing the are same in all EAC countries. kila nchi imeachwa ijipangie inavyotaka kwenye age limit. Kenya ni 8rys max, Tanzania ni 10yrs max. Sio 20yrs.

Rudia mwenyewe usome ulicho andika kama sio 20yrs. Hiyo link inayoonyesha hakuna rule Tanzania inaruhusu 20yrs car kuingia Tanzania. So as usual, you lied. Kenya import magari mengi kuliko Tanzania, and your point here is..??? Kama mgejali import bill inayozidi export bill, msingesema haya maneno.
