At least 15 people have been arrested for allegedly vandalising standard gauge railway (SGR) and electricity infrastructure.

Among those arrested are a Chinese national and a Kenyan, according to Railway Police Unit commander Gallus Hyera. Thirteen suspects have already appeared in court.

The suspects are accused of stealing more than 14 tonnes of copper cables.

The Railway Police Unit, in collaboration with other security agencies, carried out the raids following intelligence reports.

Mr Hyera noted that investigations into the sabotage revealed that the cables were stolen by individuals who were previously employed as technicians and casual labourers during the construction phase.

He added that scrap metal dealers who buy copper cables are fuelling the destruction of the SGR and electricity infrastructure.

Some of the buyers have reportedly placed agents in several areas to acquire large quantities of copper cables.

This is astonishing indeed

Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and Congo; eventually have to remove borders.

Kwanza inabidi tuondoe tribalism nonsense, na kila nchi ijipange kwenye security.

We can’t go on like this, we depend on each.

I learned from the Europeans they sacrificed a lot for their union to come about.
