Kenya's Ice Hockey Team Makes History in Canada

Previously, the team had only competed among themselves but this time, they faced an actual opponent; the Mississauga Firefighters.

Upon their arrival, the Ice Lions were given personalised jerseys and new equipment. They were joined by guest players Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche.
Ben Azegere, the Kenya Captain, stated that seeing his favourite player come through the door wearing a Kenyan jersey felt like heaven.

"When we first started playing in Kenya, we didn't even have full equipment, but now not only do we have that, but we can say we've played a real game with some All-Star teammates," added Ben.

The trip was sponsored by Tim Hortons, one of North America's largest restaurant chains as part of an advertising concept.

"While we played alongside the Ice Lions for their first game, we know it won't be their last," intimated MacKinnon.

He added, "The team's genuine passion and excitement for hockey is contagious, they were amazing teammates and it was great to play with them." he revealed.

Back home, the team practices twice a week at a 1,400-square-metre rink at the Panari Sky Center Hotel in Nairobi.

The rink is rectangular and has no boards. Though they now have the equipment, previously many of the players wore soccer shin pads, sofa cushions or nothing at all as protection.

The sports you mention above are universal, meaning they can be adopted in any country with any weather conditions.

Atleast parts of Central kenya experience winter snow plus kenya has a huge Ice field in mt kenya which can be used in training not to forget the Ice rink in Nairobi then lastly the athletes go to train abroad "there is enough money" na Utatarajia aje mtu wa Garissa afanye hii sport!? In kenya, The kalenjins do Marathon,Luos play football,Luhyas Rugby,Cushites swim. It all depends which part of the country you come from so usitudanganye hapa. Buda msilinganishe Tz na Kenya. Utaumia.

Artificial ice rinks hazihitaji umeme, kama ulivokuwa ukihadaa watu hapa, ili ziwe na ice surfaces. Huwa wanatumia teknolojia na kemikali kutengeneza coolant za kudumisha ice surfaces zao. Tembea Kenya pale Panari Sky Centre, Mombasa Road ujionee mwenyewe ice rink ambayo ipo hapa hapa Afrika, all year round. Hapo ndipo hiyo timu ya ice hockey huwa inajifunzia na kufanyia mazoezi yao. Au ukomalie tu kwenye majungu mzee, tuache sisi vijana tudhubutu.

Coolant is used as anti freeze to prevent pipes getting clogs with ice underneath the ice surface on rink. Kama ni artificial rink (not a frozen river) lazima kuwa na pump to supply "COLD WATER" under the rink so that the ice can heel when its cracks. Secondly you'll need refrigerator to keep the above surface from melting. Sasa hiyo ya kwenu unasema it uses coolant, coolant for what, melt the ice? Search water coolant in car upate majibu yake.
