Kenya’s mobile phone penetration crested the 100 per cent mark, says the Communications Authority of Kenya. It joins Morocco, Namibia and Tunisia, the only countries in Africa to achieve the milestone.

The first quarter sector statistics report for the financial year 2018/2019 by CA shows that the mobile penetration – the total number of active SIM cards calculated as a percentage of total population in the country – rose by 2.3 percentage points to stand at 100.1 per cent from 97.8 per cent reported last quarter.

The increase in mobile penetration was “mainly attributed to the fact that most users own more than one SIM card either from the same or different service providers,” says CA.

This is supported by Kenya Integrated Household Budget survey released in April by Kenya Bureau of Statistics which indicates that at least 30 per cent of mobile users in Kenya own more than one SIM card, translating to an average of 1.3 SIM cards per subscriber.

There were 46.6 million active mobile subscribers between July and September, a 2.4 per cent increase compared to April – June period.

During the period under review, there were 1.06 million net additions in mobile subscriptions.

Major players in the mobile subscription market include Safaricom, Airtel, Finserve Africa, Telkom Kenya and Mobile Pay Limited.

Safaricom PLCs’ market share for mobile subscriptions dropped by 1.2 percentage points during the quarter to stand at 64.2 per cent whereas Airtel Networks Limited gained 0.9 percentage points to post a market share of 22.3 percent. Telkom Kenya Limited, Finserve Africa Limited and Mobile Pay Limited recorded market shares of 9.0 , 4.2 and 0.2 per cent respectively.

Sema Mobile, a mobile virtual network operator that is 50 per cent owned by Mobile Decisioning (MODE), exited the market during the period.

The number of mobile money transfer transactions stood at Ksh730.2 million and valued at Ksh2.02 trillion. Further, the number of mobile commerce transactions was recorded at Ksh526.9 million and valued at Ksh1.5 trillion. Person-to-person mobile money transfers were valued at Ksh718.2 billion.

Hivi ile Galana project iliishia wapi? It was meant to reduce Hunger among poor Kenyans.

This is cowdung reasoning.

Don't be STUPID. Be RELEVANT.

Use your brain for what it's meant for.. Not a mop like you're doing right now

Dear asvptx, dont let game over get to you, and please dont let it (him/her) lead you to thinking that we (Tanzanians) all reason like it does. I know its frustrating but we'd all be fools to expect any better from keyboard warriors. I bet he never read the article, i never saw any celebrations anywhere but somehow it did!! In its view, kenyans should stop buying second simcard/phones because some parts of the country have food shortage or atleast the communications authority should not report the same. Forgive it, I deal with its type on a daily basis. So believe me am with you.
Yours truely.....

You are not a Tanzanian,
Watanzania sio watu wa kujipiga Vifua Kwa Vitu vya Kijinga,
Ukiona wanafanya hivyo mara nyingi wanajaribu kuclarify uongo na propaganda za Wakenya,

Kwa mfano,
Mkenya atakuja aseme In Tanzania Electricity accessibility is 32%, Hapo Automatically Mtanzania Game Over nitaliweka sawa hilo na Kumwambia ni 75%,

It doesn’t mean ego or sense of Pride, but just making it right, we Tanzanians are Rational People, we do the best for ourselves, not targeting to be No 1 in Africa, we are not competing but rather learning..
Kenyans Love to hear these words, Best In Africa, Greatest, No.1 in the world, Wakati in wako hoi bin Taaban,

And Of course, the same spirit, with efforts intended to achieve 100% Mobile Penetration should be diverted to curb Hunger that Kills thousands of Kenyans, Im I wrong saying So? [emoji2][emoji2][emoji2]

Number of Kenyans going hungry doubles to three million

I will let everything else pass
I just have one question, before your first comment, did you read the report "start to finish"?

Thank you for this. I assure you none of the BS spewed in here ever gets to our (my) nerves/skin. NONE! Overtime we've come to accept that that's just how some people are wired and it can only take miracles to convince them otherwise.

I love discussions. But discussions with people that reason with facts and truths is even more pleasing.

Even though there are many characters from your country (the likes above) who always seem not to hold back their hate and stupidity, I believe there are also many from your country not in the same category as them who can hold meaningful discussions without being subjective. Cheers!

Saa zingine natamani sana internet isingekua accessible kwa mtu yeyote yule. Watu wengine ni wakusikitisha sana aisee.

Huyu ana SHIDAAAA. Inaonekana kinyesi imejaza ubongo. BALAA!

Hata wale wakenya milioni 3 wenye Funza miguuni na Mikononi wana Laini Mbilimbili, sijui wanatumiaje hizo simu ikiwa madole yao ya mikononi yamejaa funza[emoji2][emoji2][emoji2][emoji2][emoji2][emoji2][emoji2]

He hehehe Nimependa sana, asante, kumbe huwa inakuuma kila tukitajwa best in everything, yaani umenipa hamasa ya kuendelea kuzileta humu...
