A 36-year-old man from Mosomborik village in Kericho County is in police custody for allegedly raping his 60-year-old mother.

According to Chepcholiet sub-location Assistant Chief Stephen Korir, the suspect, Geoffrey Kibet arrived at their home at night drunk and attacked the elderly woman.

“The man then slapped his mother on the face, forced her to the floor of the house while threatening to slash her with a panga he was armed with and begun raping her from 8PM up to midnight,” Korir explained.

Korir further indicated that the mother was alone in her house at the time, since the assailant’s father had traveled to Kuresoi to visit his relatives.

After the act, he went to his room and slept which allowed the mother a chance to run to the neighbour’s house to seek for help.

The mother later reported the matter to the chief who ordered for the man’s arrest.

The suspect was found drinking in one of the homes and taken to Chepseon police station where he is being held.

Further reports by the administrator revealed that the man is a serial divorcee who neighbours said is in the habit of marrying women and the chasing them away after a short period of time.

“He chased away his eighth wife together with his child last week,” the Assistant Chief added.

Korir has now warned such men to desist from such acts and instead look for younger women and marry them saying such acts were an abomination in the Kalenjin culture.
