Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter on Tuesday began lobbying fellow legislators to back a Motion to impeach Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru.
On the first day in the House after their three-week recess, there was, however, no mention of a proposal by the Opposition to impeach President Uhuru Kenyatta, which was announced last week.
Mr Keter spent most of the morning talking with colleagues at the Parliament reception. He told the Daily Nation that his lawyers were working on the text of the Motion intended to compel the President to sack Ms Waiguru.
Mr Keter said he had the support of many MPs who had last year indicated their support for a similar Motion by Igembe South MP Mithika Linturi, who dropped it at the eleventh hour.
He said unlike Mr Linturi, who cited pressure from the presidency as his reason for not proceeding with his bid, he would not back down.
Linturi had the support of a lot of us here and on the day he was supposed to come, he left us waiting here in the chambers. I will not do that. I have support and have lobbied enough, said Mr Keter.
He is basing his Motion on the reported loss of Sh792 million at the National Youth Service, with Mr Adan Harakhe, an officer the CS appointed, among the 21 under investigation over the loss.
Mr Keter had promised to address a press conference later in the day but failed to do so.
His first task would be to get 117 MPs to support his Motion by appending their signatures to it.
During their conversations at reception yesterday, some Jubilee MPs asked Mr Keter why he was stoking yet another fight with the Executive.
He asked the MPs to show up in the House and vote with him, even if they do not speak out in support of his Motion.
