When the Government introduces a new system by whcich vehicles are to be evaluated and taxed, there may be two main reasons:
1. To increase government revenue (for obviuos reasons), or
2. To curb the number of vehicles imported (for some other reason(s), e.g. easing traffic congestions)
Looking at it in a simplistic and realistic way, all indications are that goal number 2 (above) will be readily, and massiively achieved.
What baffles me and many of my colleagues is the fact that goal number 1 (above) appears to be the target of MoF and The Treasury.
If this layman analysis happens to be the prophecy of what is to come, the government would surely have shot at its own foot, and consequently in the very end, at our feet as well.
It will be a classic example of killing the golden egg-laying duck!
Who knows.. time will tell, simultaneously, hoping I am totally wrong!
