Konza Technopolis Chief Executive Officer John Tanui said contractors are now working 24 hours with over 1000 workers on-site in order to recover lost time.

The City is expected to unlock the unemployment gridlock in the country heightened by the coronavirus pandemic.

The government has already invested over 100 billion shillings in the project.

The parliamentary ICT committee led by its chairperson William Kipkemoi Kisang said they will give enough budgetary support to the developing African Silicon Savannah owing to its massive economic projected impacts not only in the country but also in the entire continent.

He said that through interdepartmental consultations, the Government will Fastrack construction of Thwake Dam to ensure Konza city gets enough water required for its growth.

“We have now invested close to Ksh 100 Billion and this is an assurance that the Government is serious about this city and we will continue appropriating funds to ensure the dream city becomes a reality, “said Kipkemoi.

Machakos town Mp Victor Munyaka who is also a member of parliamentary ICT committee said the regional leaders had pledged to support the multibillion project to ensure it succeeds.

“Initially the city looked like a white elephant but now it’s a reality. This is payback time for Ukambani because Machakos was the capital city of Kenya at pre-colonial” said Munyaka
