The successful organisation of — and numerous benefits from — the Tokyo International Conference of African Development in Nairobi is another global plus for Kenya.
The just-concluded conference is held every five years to promote Japanese investment and high-level dialogue between African leaders and development partners.
Kenya is the first African country to host the event attended by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and numerous heads of state and government.
In general, the Jubilee government has done well promoting the country internationally. In July, Nairobi hosted the 14th meeting of the UN Conference on Trade and Development.
It has hosted important world leaders, including US President Barrack Obama, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Nigeria’s Muhammadu Buhari, Gabon’s Ali Bongo and Pope Francis, among others.
Kenya was voted the fourth most influential African nation in 2015, behind South Africa, Ethiopia and Egypt, respectively, by Africa Cradle magazine.
The Jubilee government has taken the right path in strengthening relations with the international community and that trend should continue.
