RUKWA police are holding Mpenge villager, James Vilimani (28), on charges of abducting a three-year-old boy, Ernest Katucha, shaving his hair and abandoning him at Mpenge Primary School playing ground -- some 370 metres from his home.
The boy must thank his stars for having been spared by his alleged abductors. Rukwa Regional Police Commander (RPC) Isunto Mantage told the reporters here yesterday that on Friday night Vilimani (28), a fisherman and a neighbour of the boys family, successfully persuaded William Katucha (26) to come out of the his house.
When Mr Katucha -- the boys father -- came out his legs and hands were reportedly tied by Villimani and his three accomplices, still at large, and was told to keep quiet. Vilimani and hooded abductors snatched the boy from the house and disappeared under darkness cover.
The boys mother, Maria Kibandiko (20), raised alarm, villagers responded, untying Mr Kitucha, mounted a search and found the boy abandoned at the playground but his hair shaved. The police are looking for Vilimanis three alleged accomplices.
