Lamu port construction continues as workers retained on site

•The first berth was announced complete on August 6 last year.
•The government is on schedule for the delivery of the remaining two berths by December 2020,Lapsset Development Authority says.
•The planned 32-berth facility is located on the mainland of Lamu's Magogoni area
•The tender for the first three berths was awarded to China Communication Construction Company (CCCC) at a cost of Sh71.2 billion

Construction of the multi-billion Lamu Port project will continue uninterrupted, authorities have said, as they move to put in place measures to reduce risks of Covid-19 spread.

Limited movement to and from the port site has been adopted to reduce risks of spreading the virus which has almost paralyzed key institutions and sectors, as companies adopt a work from home module with others sending their staff on leave.

March 2020 Updates
Kenya LAMU Port: Berth 1-3 Project Successfully Completed Construction of Main Pier Vertical and Horizontal Beams

The main wharf of the Ram Port 1-3 berth project includes three berths, with a total length of 1,200 meters and a width of 36 meters, which are divided into 48 structural sections. The wharf adopts a high-pile beam-slab structure, including steel pipe pile foundations, cast-in-situ vertical and horizontal beams, prefabricated panel installation, cast-in-situ surfacing, shipbuilding components, and other ancillary auxiliary facilities. The total concrete volume of the main wharf is 50,800 cubic meters, and the total amount of reinforced steel is 9,850 tons. Among them, the concrete volume of the crossbar beam is 27,500 cubic meters, and the amount of reinforced steel is 5,550 tons. At present, the main pier's cast-in-situ surface has been completed for 1,050 meters.

The successful completion of the vertical and horizontal beams of the main pier greatly encouraged the morale of all employees, and to a certain extent alleviated the problem of tight ship equipment in the project department, and laid a solid foundation for the completion of the main pier surface in the next step. The construction of the rear retaining wall has created favorable conditions.
