The largest liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) terminal able to accommodate 2,000 metric tones of the gas is to be opened in Tanga next month.
The terminal which will employ 100 workers belongs to Lake Gas Company. The company aims to increase its storage capacity to more than 3000MT in near future with the new Depot coming up at Tanga.
Currently, Lake Gas Ltd is operating a LPG cylinder filling plant in Mikocheni, Dar es Salaam which has capacity to store about 30MT LPG and fill more than 2MT LPG or about 1200 cylinders in a day.
Lake Gas Limited aims to make a significant contribution to the social development of its consumers and communities at large in Tanzania.
Lake Oil Company has reaffirmed its commitment to Tanzania, saying it will continue exploring long term investment opportunities in the country as well as use the country as a hub for its operations in the region.
Kurra Venkaiah Choudary managing director of the company said that his company is currently exploring investment opportunities in gas, construction and logistics in addition to oil transportation operations it already has in the country.
He said his company involved with importation, storage, distribution and marketing of white petroleum products throughout the country. And also it owns and operates a huge import terminal at Kigamboni with direct pipeline access to oil import jetty and in the process of capacity expansion currently.
"We are focusing on investing and developing the Tanzania, we have more backward integration plans in the business We are in Tanzania to stay and we shall remain loyal to this country" he said.
"Next month we are opening the LPG terminal in Tanga, this will be the biggest storage in East Africa, the terminal will create jobs for 100 people, the coming of this terminal will help in the availability of oil in the region," he said.
He also said the company has invested a lot in its Subsidy Gulf Concrete by purchasing modern technology and equipment.
Choudary said Gulf Concrete and Cement Products Limited does not simply manufacture concrete, but develops solutions based on the thorough knowledge and application of concrete technology.
"We have been in the concrete industry for three years now and currently we are number two in concrete business in the country.
We have experience, a pool of knowledge, and state-of-the art expertise about the different concrete constituents and their interaction. Our plan is to see that we are growing big and better" he said.
He also said as a way of expanding and diversification, the company recently launched African Inland Container Deport (AFICD) which has the capacity of 5000 containers.
The managing director said the AFICD which is located in Tazara area in Dar es Salaam has modern equipments which can easily handle all containers.
"We opened the inland port simply because we appreciate the increase of importation of goods in the country. We have sophisticated equipments and also very dedicated and experienced people who can do the job," he said.
He also said the company has also invested 50m/- in corporate social responsibility activities covering the area of health.
"Our quarry is in Lugoba so we are building houses for staff and workers for the Lugoba Hospital. We believe that our contribution will ease the challenges which people from the around the area," he said.
