Worknesh Degefa won the ladies race ahead of Kenya’s Edna Kiplagat.
Champions of the race pocketed a cash prize of 150,000 US Doll
Last year’s Amsterdam marathon champion Lawrence Cherono won a closely contested Boston Marathon held this evening in the United States.
Cherono, who came into the race with a personal best time of 2 hours, 4 minutes and 6 seconds, won the race in 2 hours, 7 minutes and 57 seconds.
He was closely followed by Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia who clocked 2 hours, 7 minutes and 59 seconds while Kenya’s Kenneth Kipkemoi finished third in 2 hours, 8 minutes and 6 seconds.
Out of the top ten, seven were Kenyan athletes who included Geoffrey Kirui, Felix Kandie and Philemon Rono.
Worknesh Degefa maintained a large gap between herself and the rest of the women field after breaking away early and went on to win in 2 hours, 23 minutes and 31 seconds.
She beat Kenya’s Edna Kiplagat who finished second in 2 hours, 24 minutes and 13 seconds while Jordan Hasay of the United States settled for third position.
Champions of the race walked away with a cash prize of 150,000 US Dollars.
