LG Electronics East Africa, which is the leading solution provider of consumer electronics, has donated uniforms worth, millions to Uhuru Mchanganyiko Primary School as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility aimed at supporting the children with disabilities in Tanzania.
Speaking at the event, which took place yesterday at the school, LG Electronics East Africa, General Manager Marketing, Moses Marji , said LG has decided to offer its support to Uhuru Mchanganyiko because that school plays an important role in supporting the children with disabilities but the school has limited resources to meet the student demands.
He said LG Electronics has a culture of serving back the needy communities in which it operates, under the spirit of supporting the underprivileged communities, whereby in the past 10 years, LG Electronics has been supporting people living with disabilities to acquire artificial limbs as well as creating awareness on the plight of persons with physical impairments through their partnership with PCEA Kikuyu Hospital in Kenya, hundreds of people with amputated legs and arms from across East Africa including Tanzania have benefited from this initiative.
Ilala Municipal City Representative, Mr Muna Roberts, who is the Director of Human Resources, congratulated LG Electronics East Africa for its support to Uhuru Mchanganyiko, and ungues other institutions to do the same, by supporting children’s with disabilities who have special needs, the government on its own, cannot fulfil.
Receiving the donation, The Headmistress of Uhuru Mchanganyiko, Teacher Anna Mshana, thanked LG Electronics East Africa, for its generous support to provide uniforms for the school. She said the school comprises of children with different forms of disabilities and impairment such as visual, intellectual, skin and the deaf. She said the school has a total of 650 students of which 25 % have disabilities, some are boarding and some are day student. Most of the students are coming from poor families as a result, the school does not charge school fees and therefore depends much on government support and good Samaritans and community donations.
She said the school have many more pressing issues which needs support from the communities, such as learning aids for children with disabilities, needs to expand its computer laboratory and needs more computers for the special needs such as computers for the blind, and for the deaf.
On their part, Issa Abasi representing students with albinism, Lydia Issack representing the deaf students, and Kevin Joseph representing the blind students, all thanked the LG Electronics East Africa for its kind donation of uniforms, they ask other instructions follow suit.
