Most of the cases involve close family members [intent] in curing some kind of disease or amassing wealth leading to both men and women defiling their young girls," coordinator Hilda Esliy said.
She said a case study done in Ganda ward, Malindi subcounty, showed key perpetrators are elderly men who defile their young daughters.
Ganda village is notorious with cases of defilement. A week does not go without an incident being reported," Esliy said.
She spoke during a meeting with stakeholders at Kisumu Ndogo Catholic Church, Malindi town.
Esliy said two days ago a man was arrested after he allegedly defiled his one year old daughter in Ganda.
Most of these cases are usually reported within the family, but due to the retrogressive culture most of the culprits walk scot-free.
Esliy said such cultural beliefs hinder campaigns and awareness programmes initiated by stakeholders.
She said there have also been a few cases of women having sex with their young sons.
