A 73 year-old man was found beheaded and his body abandoned at a footpath near his home at Kineng’ene Village in Lindi Municipality.

Lindi Regional Police Commander, Ms Renatha Mzinga, confirmed the death, saying they have arrested a suspect Mr Nassoro Issa, 36, at a hospital, where he had gone for treatment for wounds he sustained when he was reportedly committing the heinous act.

She said the police have recovered a knife that was reportedly used by Mr Issa to behead Abel Mwandaunji

“Before he was arrested the suspect came to the police station with a letter from the village authority looking for PF3 forms so that he could go for treatment over wounds he sustained from people who wanted to rob him of his bicycle…soon after he arrived at the hospital we received news of the killing and started investigating him,” said the RPC.

According to the RPC she decided to send his men to put the suspect under arrest and started investigation. Preliminary investigation shows he is linked to the death.

A visit by this paper at Lindi Regional Hospital found the suspect admitted in ward number six under tight police guard with deep injuries on his head and arm.

Relatives attending to him at hospital have told this paper that their relative, a businessman from Dar es Salaam has a long history of mental problems, saying he had been taken back to the village over the same problem.

He said due to the problem they were forced to take him to a witchdoctor at Mlola Ward for treatment.

They said on the fateful day their relative had sneaked from the witchdoctor’s home where he was being treated, took a bicycle and rode to an unknown place until they were informed about his arrest over suspicion of murder.
