Title is United's to lose - Benitez
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez all but conceded the Premier League title to Manchester United after seeing his side slip up at Middlesbrough.

Benitez: Reds suffered shock loss to Boro Send to friend

The Reds' unbeaten 15-game league run came to an abrupt end at the Riverside Stadium as Xabi Alonso's own goal and Tuncay Sanli's 63rd-minute strike saw Boro clinch all three points for the first time since November 9.

United are now seven points better off than the men from Anfield, who have played a game more.

Asked if the title race was over, Benitez, whose side have slipped into third place behind Chelsea on goal difference, said: "Before the game, it was very difficult - after the game, it is more difficult.

"It depends on United. It will be more difficult, clearly."

Boro, who had not scored a league goal in 526 minutes of football, took a 31st-minute lead with the help of the unwitting Alonso.

The Spaniard stuck out a leg as Stewart Downing's corner sped across the box and only succeeded in turning it past goalkeeper Jose Reina.

However, there was nothing fortunate about Boro's second, Tuncay shooting across Reina and into the bottom corner from Jeremie Aliadiere's pin-point cross.

Liverpool, who had gone close through Nabil El Zhar and Dirk Kuyt before the break, squandered glorious opportunities after it with the same two men guilty of glaring misses.

And the home side might have won even more comfortably with substitute Marlon King forcing a late save from Reina and then having a goal ruled out for offside at the death.

Benitez, whose team beat Real Madrid at the Bernabeu Stadium on Wednesday evening, said: "I don't want to say too much, but for me, it is very clear. In the first 30 minutes, we had five chances and you have to take your chances.

"After the own goal, we still had chances. If you want to win, you have to score."

The Spaniard denied that the club's off-field problems - his contract remains unsigned, while it has been announced that chief executive Rick Parry will leave Anfield at the end of the season - were a factor, but also revealed that his own situation could progress soon.

He said: "My advisers are in contact with the advisers of the owners, so maybe they will have a conversation and we will see if we can progress."

As Benitez headed back to the north-west to begin preparations for Tuesday night's clash with Sunderland, opposite number Gareth Southgate was celebrating one of the most significant victories of his managerial career to date.

The win lifted Boro out of the bottom three, but perhaps more importantly, increased belief that they can survive in the top flight.

Southgate said: "I am pleased for the players because they have had to endure a long period of frustration.

"But their work ethic and their togetherness over the last seven or eight weeks in particular, as we have been building towards this, has been excellent and we have got to continue that now.

"Today is a huge lift because there will be teams sitting at home watching the scores coming in and they won't have expected us to get anything today.

"It will have dragged a lot of teams back into the fight at the bottom.

"I said last week when there was still a lot of despondency, we are still in there fighting.

"We are still in the cup, we are fighting in the league and we have shown that as a group this week, the fight is very much in them, and the quality is there as well, which is pleasing to see."

Asked about Liverpool's title hopes, Southgate said: "I just think for everybody, the way United are, the strength of their squad and the way they are playing, it's going to be very difficult for anybody to catch them.

"For all of the top teams, chasing United is a formidable task at the moment."

HARRY REDKNAPP is convinced Manchester United can make history this season by winning five trophies.

Alex Ferguson refuses to even discuss the prospect.

But they have won the Club World Cup, yesterday picked up the Carling Cup and have a commanding lead in the League after Liverpool's defeat at Boro on Saturday.

They are in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and are heading to the last eight in the Champions League.

Spurs boss Redknapp is tipping them to take the lot and said: "They've got a big chance of winning the lot. They're the team to beat and have a fantastic squad.

"The league's going their way, for sure. You wouldn't bet against them to win the Champions League and it'll be the big four in the semi-finals of the FA Cup."

Redknapp believes Ferguson's desire for silverware also remains unquenchable.

Yesterday, he played rookies Danny Welbeck and Darron Gibson from the start - but when the going got tough the big guns were on.

Redknapp added: "Let's be honest, we played the best team in Europe. It wasn't their kids.

"They started with two, but they came off ‘pretty lively'. Vidic comes on, Giggs comes on. That back four they ended up with is very strong.

"When there's a trophy to be won, Alex wants to win. Makes no mistake, he's not going to play a load of kids and, if they get beat, say ‘unlucky.'"

Ferguson is trying to calm talk about winning five trophies. He said: "The great advantage I have is I won't get carried away with it.

"We'll keep our feet on the ground. It would be great to think we could do it but my experience says we could go to Fulham next weekend, get a deflected shot off someone's backside and we're out of the FA Cup.

"But it was a good weekend for us - you hope your opponents drop points. The best thing we can do is gather ourselves and energise ourselves for Newcastle on Wednesday.

"I'll freshen it up in some positions and, hopefully, we'll get the result we want."

Fergie has won 31 trophies in more than 22 years and Ryan Giggs, 35, brought on as a second-half sub added: "The hunger he has rubs off on the players.

"It's a cup final so obviously we wanted to win and kick on from there.

"That's what we did with the World Club Cup so, hopefully, we can show the same form after this."

Hero keeper Ben Foster added: "It was a crazy game in some ways. The 30 minutes of extra time were almost played at walking pace.

"They had us under pressure but we are Manchester United and we want to win everything."

Ferguson did admit John O'Shea could have been shown a red card for a second booking after felling Luka Modric.

He said: "He was late in the second challenge. But in the context of O'Shea and the type of player he is, he never gets booked."

Tottenham's Jamie O'Hara was in tears after missing one of their shootout spot-kicks but Redknapp was still proud of his team.

He added: "I thought we were terrific. They couldn't beat us in 120 minutes and I don't think we deserved to lose but I've got to be honest we did not look confident taking penalties.

"Jamie's got a great left foot and was the first to volunteer for one. He feels for the club, is part of the club."

First of all IM UNITED TILL I DIE,Fergie alinifurahisha sana akimpanga mzee mzima SCHOLES kumfundisha kazi DARON GIBSON,ingawa dogo alichoka but alionyesha kiwango kizuri,Kombe linalofuatia ni PREMIER league nafikiri baada ya game kama 5 tayari ubingwa utakuwa kibindoni

Fergie awe anampanga FORSTER kuliko yule mchovu KUSZACK nafikiri jana amedhihirisha anaweza kumrithi Van der Sar

Sure mkuu, Foster he is more settled than yule asiyejiamini Kuszak, aliniboa sana alivocheza boko last time na Blackburn na kutoa Bi#$@ yetu. On top of that si mara yake ya kwanza. Foster akipata mechi zaidi atajenga confidence zaidi.

Better late than never.....Man raha bin raha.
Hadi sasa Man ana uhakika wa makombe matatu (including EPL - kwa trend ya Man ni muujiza kupoteza point 7 katika gemu 12 halafu Bluz/Liva wawe perfect kwenye game zao 11).
Ishu ni UCL na FA tu!

Kweli ManU inatisha!

That was then, and this is now -- you fitted then, but you have failed to fit in now!

Newcastle 1 Man Utd 2

...Manure mmeamua safari hii, duh!!!

...No, this days ManU tuko activu zaidi na kilini shiti, ushindi... tena kwa New-castle ni kawaida!...
ManU big up... mwendo mdundo......

Huo ndio utofauti kati ya SAF na managers wengine kwenye EPL. Inhali since Benitez atue Anfield, miaka takribani mitano till to date KASAJILI WACHEZAJI 51!, kati yao hao ni WATATU tu, Torres, Skritel na Mascherano ambao at least wamefikia kwenye Peak zao. The rest mimi na wewe tunajua wat happened to them..the likes of Vronin, Keane, etc na kikosi alicho shindia CL na FA cup kilikuwa cha Gerady Houllier! (The same aplies to Mourinho na kikosi cha Ranieri kuchukulia Ubingwa).

From that note therefore swali laja;

Who is greater than SAF?

Which team is better than Manutd? (Embu cheki na rotation policy yetu game after game, NB;ilimshinda Benitez last season)

More important; Ni timu gani itatuzuia kuchukua 'quantiple'..?
Game tatu zijazo zita-prove s'thing upon that, Fulham, Inter Milan na Mazishi ya Liverpool OT..

Mark my words fellas!!
