Mega projects underway as Nakuru readies for city status

Mi ni msee wa coast but Nilizaliwa na kuishi Nakuru, Born in Nakuru Memorial Hospital enzi hizo...

Anyway, Nakuru was once the cleanest town in Kenyas the 90's and it held that position for a long time.....

A team has been set to come up with a strategy to clean up Nakuru Town in order to restore its one time fame as the cleanest town in Kenya.
The team comprises players in the health, water and sanitation sectors.
The Nakuru County inter-agency committee has come up with an urban sanitation strategy that will work on specific areas to clean up and beautify the town.
The inter-agency coordination committee comprises non-governmental organisations, county departments of Health, Environment, Water and Natural resources, the Rift Valley Water Service Board (RVWSB) and Nakuru Water, Sanitation and Sewerage Company (Nawassco) and private organisations.
Nakuru seeks to reclaim cleanest town glory

2018 Cleanest town was voted as Kisumu followed by Eldoret Nakuru was Number 4 or 5... I cant remember...... I think the position of Deputy Governot should be scrapped... Instead, They should bring back Mayors.. this office used to be resposible for alot of developments in towns back in the day

Wacha wakuje they tell us more. I also need to know. Staki nijenge 20 floors waangushe

Lol! No, I think buildings these days are lighter and stronger, thanx to new technologies in construction...

There would come a time when places like Nakuru and Morogoro would be able to have 20+ floor buildings, without affecting the integrity of the already susceptible grounds they stand on.

But Nakuru will never reclaim its 'old glory' as the neatiest town in Kenya, considering the efforts in place by the other towns in the country......the way these governers are so eager to ingratiate themselves with the voters, and leave lasting legacies perhaps. But it is a good endeavour all the same.

Town clerks, not the mayors, were the ones involved with the nuts and bolts of town management- those gone days before the counties were created. These days it is not clear to me who are responsible really.

Remember them days of akina Dick Wathika, George Aladwa.....those former Nairobi city mayors? Nairobi was clean, not bcos of those two former mayors and their ever wrangling, chair- hurling councillors, but bcos of one John Gakuo, the former Nairobi town clerk who oversaw the cleaning-up of the city, street lamps installation and their maintainance, waste management, operation-chokozz-off-the-streets, effective tax collection methods.....Gakuo took credit for these.

And imagine he achieved all these with just a fraction of the budget being allocated the Nairobi city authority today to carry out these very tasks.

Apart from the 5 cities, , Which other 2 are next in the Pipeline???? ?

So, Nakuru gets city status in December. What are the positives???

Nakuru only needs an airport and a new City plan to qualify as a City. Hakuna story mingi. It already has one of the best roads in Kenya, enough Educational Facilities, Health facilities, it is a Manufacturing hub and the 3rd Largest Urban Population in the Country. This is already a City only waiting for declaration.
