Gen. Mubarakh Muganga, the Chief of Defence Staff of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), was ordered by Criminal Paul Kagame to take direct command of the capture of Goma City. On 6th January 2025, he relocated to Rubavu, a Rwandan city bordering Goma, where he assumed the role of Chief Operations Commander in the invasion to seize Goma City.
A seasoned military strategist, Muganga is a veteran of all of Rwanda's military invasions in the DRC, bringing years of battlefield experience to this latest operation to capture Goma, a City of a sovereign country, DRC.
The RDF's invasion followed a multi-pronged assault, advancing on Goma through the following strategic routes:
* Mushaki-Sake and Minova-Sake axes, before converging on Goma via the Sake-Goma axis.
* Kanyamahoro-Kilimanyoka-Kibumba Valley-Goma axis.
* Rutoke-Goma axis.
The RDF deployed a full division for the capture of Goma, comprising three brigades. The city was initially besieged (siege warfare) before being overrun by overwhelming RDF troop numbers.
Fresh from capturing Goma City in the DRC, Gen. Mubarakh Muganga has begun reappearing at RDF functions. On 30th January 2025, he officiated the graduation of 531 Special Operations Force personnel, who had completed an 11-month specialized combat training course at the Nasho Basic Military Training Centre in Kirehe District.
Today, 31st January 2025, Gen. Mubarakh Muganga attended the Inter-Force Sports Competition final football match between the Combat Training Centre Gabiro and the Special Operations Force (SOF). His public reappearance signals a return to routine military duties following RDF's successful invasion of Goma.
RDF’s Next Military Campaign Objectives
Following the capture of Goma, the RDF has set its sights on further strategic targets in both North and South Kivu, including:
* Beni on the Lubero axis.
* Minova-Bukavu axis in South Kivu.
* Walikale town axis in Walikale.
With these upcoming offensives, RDF's military strategy in the DRC continues to unfold, raising concerns about the escalation of hostilities and the expansion of Rwanda’s territorial control in the region.
