UPDP wamtaka Nchimbi kusimamia maadili

 CHAMA cha UPDP kimemtaka Waziri wa Habari, Vijana, Utamaduni na Michezo, Emmanuel Nchimbi kusimamia maadili ya kijamii yakiwemo mavazi kwa watumishi, wasanii wanenguaji na uanzishwaji wa kumbi mbalimbali za muziki mitaani.
Taarifa iliyotolewa kwa vyombo vya habari jijini Dar es Salaam hivi karibuni na Naibu Katibu Mkuu wa chama hicho, Felix Makuwa, ilieleza kuwa, waziri mwenye dhamana anatakiwa kuwa makini na masuala ya kijamii, kutokana na ongezeko kubwa la mmomonyoko wa maadili kwa sasa.
Alisema, suala la mavazi kwa watumishi, wacheza muziki, filamu na ujenzi wa kumbi za muziki uliokithiri mitaani, unaharibu jamii na kuleta ongezeko la mmomonyoko wa maadili, hivyo umakini katika hilo unahitajika.
Alisema mara nyingi wamekuwa wakikumbana na kero za kelele za muziki mitaani, hali inayosababishwa na usimamizi mbovu wa viongozi waliopewa dhamana hiyo.
"Tumekuwa hatulali kutokana na kero za kelele ya muziki wa disko na ngoma, huku tabia hizo zikiambatana sambamba na utumiaji wa dawa za kulevya na hili limekuwa ni jambo la kawaida, muziki kupigwa barabarani na hata mitaani tunamoishi, jambo ambalo ni hatari sana kwa jamii," alisema Makuwa.
Alisema kama waziri anatakiwa kulifanyia utafiti suala hilo, hata kwa wakati wa usiku kupita mitaani ili aweze kujionea hali ilivyokuwa mbaya kutokana na baa kupiga muziki hata wakati wa mchana, usiku kwa sauti ya juu na kuwafanya watu kukosa usingizi.
Aliongeza kuwa litakuwa jambo la fedheha kama serikali itashindwa kusimamia suala hilo la mmomonyoko wa maadili, hivyo ofisi yake inatakiwa kuonyesha mfano wa kufanya kazi ya ziada ya kupambana na uhalifu huo ambao unazidi kuonyesha kuota matawi.

Simba, Yanga funga hao

WAWAKILISHI wa Tanzania Bara kwenye michuano ya kimataifa, Simba na Yanga leo watakuwa kwenye viwanja tofauti kupeperusha bendera ya Taifa.

Kwenye Uwanja wa Taifa, Dar es Salaam, Yanga itaikaribisha Dedebit ya Ethiopia katika mechi ya Kombe la Shirikisho, wakati Simba itakuwa mjini Moroni, Comoro kucheza na Elan Club de Mitsoudje ya huko.

Kwa upande wa wawakilishi wa Zanzibar, leo kutakuwa na mchezo mmoja, ambapo KMKM itakuwa mwenyeji wa DC Motema Pembe ya Jamhuri ya Kidemokrasi ya Congo (DRC) katika mchezo wa Kombe la Shirikisho.

Akizungumzia mechi ya Yanga, Kocha Msaidizi wa timu hiyo, Fredy Minziro alisema amekiandaa vizuri kikosi chake na ana imani kitaibuka na ushindi.

"Tumejiandaa vizuri na mechi hiyo na tutahakikisha tunashinda ili kujiweka katika mazingira mzuri ya kusonga mbele,"alisema Minziro.

Aidha kocha huyo ambaye amechukua mikoba kutoka kwa Kostadin Papic aliyetangaza kujiuzulu mwanzoni mwa wiki hii, aliwaomba mashabiki kujitokeza kwa wingi kuishangilia timu yake.

Naye kocha wa Dedebit Gembremed Haile, alisema haihofii Yanga licha ya kufahamu kuwa ni timu kubwa katika ukanda wa Afrika Mashariki na Kati.

"Yanga naifahamu, lakini hata sisi tumejiandaa na tutashinda," alisema kocha huyo.

Washambuliaji wa Yanga wakiongozwa na Davis Mwape, Idd Mbaga na Jerry Tegete watakuwa na jukumu kubwa la kupata mabao mengi ili yasaidie mbele ya safari.

Si kufunga mabao mengi, lakini pia kuhakikisha mabeki wakiongozwa na Shadrack Nsajigwa, Stephano Mwasika na Nadir Haroub wahakikishe kipa Yaw Berko hapati madhara.

Kwa upande wa Simba ambayo ipo mjini Moroni katika visiwa vya Comoro, leo itakuwa na kazi nzito dhidi ya timu ya Elan de Mitsoudje ya huko.

Simba iliwasili katika visiwa hivyo tangu Jumanne wiki hii na habari kutoka huko zinasema kuwa wachezaji wote wako katika hali nzuri.

Akizungumza kutoka Moroni, Kocha Mkuu wa Simba Patrick Phiri aliwatoa hofu mashabiki na Watanzania kwa ujumla kwa kuahidi kuwa wanao uwezo wa kufanya vizuri na kuibuka na ushindi katika mechi hiyo.

Phiri alisema pamoja na kwamba anatambua kuwa wapinzani wao ni timu bora, lakini wao wamejiandaa kuibuka na ushindi.

"Tunajua wao wako nyumbani, lakini nimejipanga na kikosi changu na natarajia nitapata ushindi mkubwa,"alisema kocha huyo Mzambia.

Simba itaingia uwanjani ikiwa na kumbukumbu mbaya ya kufungwa mabao 3-2 katika mchezo wa Jumapili iliyopita Ligi Kuu Tanzania Bara, hivyo kubaki nafasi ya pili katika msimamo wa ligi hiyo.

Yanga sasa ndiyo inaongoza ligi ikiwa na pointi 31, wakati Simba inashika nafasi ya pili ikiwa na pointi 27.

Yanga imeizidi Simba mchezo mmoja. Washambuliaji wa Simba wakiongozwa na Emmanuel Okwi, aliyerejea uwanjani baada ya kuwa majeruhi akishirikiana na Mussa Mgosi, Patrick Ochan watakuwa na jukumu kubwa la kuhakikisha Simba inapata ushindi wa kishindo.

Ushindi wa mabao mengi utaiweka Simba kwenye nafasi nzuri zaidi kwenye mchezo wa
marudiano wiki mbili zijazo jijini Dar es Salaam, ambapo kama itawaondoa Wacomoro itakutana na mabingwa watetezi wa Ligi ya Mabingwa Afrika, TP Mazembe.

Ni vyema safu ya ulinzi ya Simba chini ya Juma Nyoso, Haruna Shamte, Meshack Abel na Juma Jbau nayo ikazidisha umakini kuhakikisha kipa Juma Kaseja hapati madhara.

Nayo KMKM leo ni nafasi nzuri kwake kuhakikisha inapata ushindi mnono ambao utakuwa hazina kubwa zitakaporudiana wiki mbili zijazo nchini DRC.

Kocha wa Yanga,Kostan Papic

KOCHA wa Yanga aliyetangaza kubwaga manyanga, Kosta Papic huenda akasimamia timu yake katika mechi ya Kombe la Shirikisho, dhidi ya Wahabeshi wa Dedebit Sports kutoka Ethiopia katika mchezo wa kwanza wa raundi ya awali wa michuano hiyo ya klabu Afrika.

Siku kadhaa zilizopita, Yanga imekumbwa na migogoro na Papic, raia wa Serbia kutangaza kubwaga manyanga kabla ya uongozi wa klabu hiyo kugomea uamuzi wake huo. Hata hivyo, Papic mbali na kuaga hadi wachezaji, alikuwa hajawasilisha barua ya kuachia ngazi.

Habari ambazo Mwananchi imezipata jana na kuthibitishwa na Papic mwenyewe zinasema kuwa yupo tayari kubaki kwa sharti la uongozi wa klabu hiyo kumuweka pembeni kocha msaidizi Felex Minziro.

"Mazungumzo ya juzi na leo (jana), mchana wanafikia tamati leo mchana, nimetoa masharti na moja ya masharti hayo ni kwamba wamuondoe Minziro ndipo niendelee hadi mkataba wangu utakapomalizika," alisema Papic

Hata hivyo chanzo cha habari kiliambia Mwananchi kuwa uongozi wa klabu hiyo pamoja na mdhamini wamekubaliana na matakwa ya kocha huyo na wapo kwenye mazungumzo na Minziro ili waweze kumpa ajira nyingine kwa muda hadi hapo mkataba wa Papic utakapoisha ikiwa ni pamoja na kuanza mchakato wa kusaka kocha bora atakayebeba mikoba ya Papic.

Ukiacha hayo, Yanga iliyokuwa chini ya Fred Felix Minziro 'Majeshi', ambaye alisema kuwa kwa upande wao wamefanya maandalizi ya kutosha kuhakikisha wanafanya vizuri katika michuano hiyo.

''Tumejipanga kuakikisha tunafanya vizuri hasa katika mchezo huu wa leo kwa kuwa tuko nyumbani itakuwa ni aibu na kuwanyima raha wana Yanga kama tutafungwa nyumbani hivyo nilazima tuakikishe tunashinda kitu ambacho nimewaambia hata wachezaji'' alisema Minziro.

Alisema anajua kuwa wana kibarua kigumu kuhakikisha anafanya vizuri hasa ukizingatia kachukua timu siku chache kabla ya mechi hiyo ya leo lakini kwa kuwa yeye ni Kocha na amekwishawai kuinoa timu hiyo ameweza kuutumia muda huo mchake aliokuwanao kuakikisha anawanoa vizuri vijana wake.

Hata hivyo alisema kuwa mechi ya leo ni ngumu sana kwani kila mmoja anataka kushinda lakini hatajitaidi kuwatumia vizuri wachezaji wake kwa aili ya kupata ushindi wa mapema pia anamshukuru mungu kuwa mpaka sasa anamajeruhi mmoja ambaye ni Ernest Boakye pekee.

Naye mfadhili wa klabu hiyo, Yusuf Manji ametangaza dau la sh20mil endapo timu itashinda mchezo huo. Manji tayari amewalipa mishahara ya mwezi huu wachezaji wote ikiwa ni hamasa ya kufanya vizuri.

Kwa Upande wa Kocha wa Dedebit Gembremed Haile alisema kuwa wao kwa upande wao wamekuja kushinda japo anajua mchezo huo utakuwa ni mgumu sana kwani kila mmoja huyo vitani.

Lakini aliongeza kuwa wachezaji wake wameasiliwa kwa kiasi furani na hali ya hewa kwani inautofauti mkubwa na kwao hata hivyo alionfeza kuwa haita wasumbua sana wakifika uwanjani.

Beki makini wa Yanga, Shadrack Nsajigwa alisema kuwa wamejipanga kikamilifu kuhakikisha wanashinda mchezo huo ili kujiweka sawa.

Alisema wachezaji wote wana morari ya ushindi na wanachotaka kuona timu yao inafika mbali katika michuano hiyo ya pili kwa ukubwa kwa klabu Afrika.

Simba kazi moja kwa Wacomoro

MABINGWA wa soka Tanzania Simba, wanaanza kampeni ya kusaka heshima hiyo mbele ya Elan ya Comoro katika mchezo wa kwanza wa raundi ya kwanza utakaofanyika kwenye Uwanja wa Kimataifa wa Said Mohamed Cheikh ulioko karibu na bahari katika kijiji cha Mitsamihuli mjini Moroni.

Kipa, Juma Kaseja atatumia uzoefu wake wa miaka tisa akiwa na kikosi cha Simba kilichoitoa Zamaleck ya Misri kwa mikwaju ya penalti na Simba kufuzu kwa hatua ya makundi ya michuano hiyo Afrika 2003. Mechi ya leo itaanza saa 9:00 alasiri.

Kaseja kama alivyo kwa wachezaji wengine wa Simba, wamepania kupata ushindi katika mchezo wa leo huku kipa huyo akiwa na jukumu la kuzuia mashuti na hatari zote za washambuliaji wenye kasi wa Elan wakiongozwa na Abdoulkarim Sandjema 'Mchami' na Madaha Mohamed 'Turbo'.

Mshambuliaji Sandjema msimu uliopita alifunga mabao tisa na kuisaidia timu yake kutwaa ubingwa wa visiwa hivi katika ligi inayoshiriki timu 10 ikitofautiana na Tanzania kwa timu mbili tu.

Mabingwa hao wa Tanzania wanaingia uwanjani wakiwa na kumbukumbu mbaya ya kufungwa mabao 3-2 na Azam FC katika mechi ya Ligi Kuu, kipigo kilichozua kizaa ndani ya kambi ya timu hiyo.

Kocha wa Simba, Patrick Phiri anaamini matokeo mazuri kwenye mchezo wa leo yatarudisha hali ya kujiamini na morali ya ushindi kwa wachezaji wake ili kufikia lengo la kucheza hatua ya makundi alilojiwekea.

"Nahitaji kushinda ili kuwafanya wachezaji, mashabiki wajiamini na kusahau yaliyopita ili tuweze kuendelea kufanya vizuri. Nahitaji kujilinda zaidi na kushambulia kwa kushitukiza na kuonyesha hofu yake kwenye ngome yake.

"Hapa ni ugenini ni lazima tuwe makini zaidi kwenye kulinda kwa sababu Elan wao watahitaji kushinda hivyo watafanya mashambulizi mengi nimewaanda vizuri mabeki.

Kikosi changu kina upungufu kidogo kwenye ngome baada ya kuumia, Joseph Owino bado hatujapa maelewano mazuri, lakini naamini kwenye kucheza kitimu hakuna linaloshindikana.

"Owino alikuwa nguzo muhimu kwetu msimu uliopita kweli ni pigo, lakini natarajia Kelvin Yondani, Meshack Abel, Juma Nyosso na Jerry Santo wataziba pengo hilo.

Hivyo atalazimika kuwatumia zaidi Emmanuel Okwi au Partick Ochan pamoja na kiungo wake chipukizi Rashid Gumbo mfungaji wa bao pekee la Taifa Stars dhidi ya Misri kwenye michuano ya Bonde la Mto Nile. Echessa huenda asicheze baada ya kuumia nyonga akiwa mazoezini.

Nahodha wa Simba, Nico Nyagawa akizungumzia mchezo huo alisema wamejiandaa vya kutosha na hawatawadharau kama wengi wanavyofikiri.

"Tunahitaji kushinda hapa na kuwatoa hawa ili kuanza kuifikiria Mazembe, kama wakitufunga hawa hatutoweza kutimiza ndoto ya kuwavaa mabingwa wa Afrika.

"Kubwa ambalo tumelifanya ili tupate matokeo mazuri leo ni kusahau yaliyotokea kwa Azam, kwa sababu kila moja wetu ameumia na hataki kusikia kabisa jambo hilo.

"Tukifiria yaliyotokea kwa Azam basi tumekwisha, tutafungwa pia leo, kile ni kidonda unaposema kila moja anaumi sana, kazi yetu ni kujituma hapa na kushinda basi," alimaliza Nyagawa.


UMBALI
Uwanja wa Mitsamihuli upo kaskazini mwa mji wa Moroni, umbali wa kilometa 50 (kama Dar hadi Mlandizi) kutoka ilipo hoteli ya Karthala iliyoko kusini kwenye vilima vya kijiji cha Mvuni umbali wa saa 1:30.

UWANJA

Uwanja wa Taifa wa Comoro unatumia nyasi bandia kama ulivyokuwa wa Uhuru hivyo kutoa nafasi kubwa kwa Simba kucheza vizuri na kujiamini zaidi.

AS Vita yatua na watu 50 Zanzibar

TIMU ya soka ya AS Vita kutoka Jamhuri ya Kidemokrasia ya Kongo (DRC), iliwasili ghafla jana Zanzibar ikiwa na msafara wa watu 50.

AS Vita kesho itashuka Uwanja wa Amaan Zanzibar kucheza na Zanzibar Ocean View katika mchezo wa kwanza hatua ya awali Ligi ya Mabingwa Afrika.

Akizungumza na gazeti hili jana, mdau wa michezo Maulid Hamad Maulid ambaye amepata kuwa Katibu Mwenezi wa Chama cha Soka Zanzibar (ZFA), alisema timu hiyo iliwasili asubuhi Uwanja wa Ndege wa Zanzibar.

"Awali taarifa yao ilikuwa waje leo (jana) usiku, lakini wakafika ghafla na wamefika na watu 50, wamekuwa na tahadhari kubwa sana tangu wawasili hapa," alisema Maulid.

Alieleza kuwa timu hiyo ilipangiwa kufikia Hoteli ya Zanzibar Ocean View, lakini mjumbe wao waliyemtanguliza mjini hapa mapema wiki hii alikataa timu hiyo kufikia hapo na kuwa wanatafuta mahali pengine ambapo itafikia.

Hata hivyo alieleza kuwa watu 25 ambao ni mashabiki, waandishi wa habari pamoja na watu wengine waliofuatana na timu hiyo ndiyo walifikia Hoteli ya Zanzibar Ocean View.

Lakini kwa mujibu wa Maulid hadi jioni jana, ilikuwa haijajulikana wachezaji pamoja na viongozi watafikia hoteli gani.

Leo katika Uwanja wa Amaan kuna mchezo wa Kombe la Shirikisho kati ya KMKM na DC Motema Pembe, ambayo pia inatoka DRC na imefikia kwenye Hoteli ya Zanzibar Ocean View.

SHIRIKISHO la Soka Tanzania, TFF, limesema litashirikiana na serikali katika kuhakikisha linapata wadhamini wa kutosha kuinua soka nchini pamoja na kujenga viwanja vya kisasa zaidi kwa maendeleo ya soka.

Hayo yameelezwa jana na Makamu wa Rais wa Shirikisho hilo, Ramadhan Nassib wakati akifunga semina ya siku tano ya FIFA iliyoandaliwa na Shirikisho hilo kwa viongozi mbalimbali wa soka hapa nchini.

Nassibu alisema wameridhishwa na mafunzo hayo ambayo amedai yamewaondoa kizani kutokana na kupata mbinu nyingi katika kuinua na kukuza mpira wa miguu pamoja na kupata ushawishi wa kujenga viwanja vyenye hadhi ya kimataifa katika muda mchache.

Mafunzo hayo ambayo yameshirikisha jumla ya wajumbe 36 ambao walikabidhiwa vyeti vya ushiriki na mjumbe wa FIFA aliyetoa mafunzo hayo, Windsor John alilishukuru shirikisho hilo kwa kuonyesha ushirikiano mkubwa kwao na kuahidi Tanzania itafika mbali katika soka na hata kushiriki Kombe la Dunia.

Mjumbe huyo wa FIFA alieleza kushangazwa na ubora mkubwa wa Tanzania katika soka na kuahidi wataendelea kuwa nao bega kwa bega kwa ajili ya kuongeza ufanisi wa kutosha katika maendeleao ya soka hapa nchini.

Kwa upande wa washiriki wa semina hiyo wamesema wameridhishwa na mafunzo hayo ambayo yalikua yakilenga kuleta ufanisi na kudai kwa kiasi kikubwa yamewasaidia kutambua wako wapi na nini wafanye katika kujiongezea mafanikio.

Liverpool will be bracing themselves for a renewed bid from Chelsea for Fernando Torres after turning down a transfer request from the player.
The Anfield club turned down Torres' request on Friday and then told the Spain striker they expect him to honour his long-term contract.
Speculation had been rife all day about the 26-year-old's future after the club turned down a £35million bid from Chelsea.

Just hours after the Reds concluded a deal with Ajax for their Uruguay forward Luiz Suarez Torres handed in his request.
It was rejected and the player was reminded of his previous pledge to the club.
"Fernando Torres tonight submitted a written transfer request, which has been rejected by Liverpool," said a club statement.
"Fernando is under long-term contract and the club expect him to honour the commitment he made to Liverpool FC and its supporters when he signed the agreement."
Barely had news of the Suarez deal, worth up to £22.8million for the Dutch club, filtered out then speculation began to increase about Torres.
It had been hoped the capture of the Uruguayan would provide the necessary evidence that owners Fenway Sports Group were serious about investing in the squad and convince star names like Torres and goalkeeper Jose Reina that they could have a successful future at Anfield.
However, it appears the 26-year-old's mind had already been made up to ask to leave in the wake of Chelsea's bid even though he has a contract until the end of 2013.
The Stamford Bridge side have tried to sign Torres before and last summer it seemed they were preparing to make another offer when the player returned from South Africa as a World Cup winner.
Torres put an end to the speculation spoke publicly of his feelings for the club on August 3, saying: "My commitment and loyalty to the club and to the fans is the same as it was on my first day when I signed.
"I am looking forward to the challenge ahead."
It is those comments which the club have now turned back on the player, insisting they have no desire to allow him to leave.

Their statement also, quite cleverly, leans heavily on the elevated position the Spaniard has with the supporters, who have adored their number nine since the day he signed in July 2007.
The timing of Torres' request is odd, just three days before the close of the transfer window, and that could act in Liverpool's favour as they desperately try to hold on to a player who has been so influential for the vast majority of his three and a half years at the club.
Even if Chelsea return with an improved bid the Merseysiders will reject it and then can stall and frustrate any other attempts to manufacture a move, knowing there is very little time left for pressure to build.
Liverpool are not in action this weekend after being knocked out of the FA Cup in the third round and return to action on Wednesday at home to Stoke in the Barclays Premier League.
Manager Kenny Dalglish is scheduled to hold his pre-match press conference on Monday - deadline day - but he is likely to have done plenty of talking behind the scenes before he faces the media after the weekend.
Dalglish is a man Torres has great respect and feeling for so if anyone can talk the Spaniard round it is the legendary Scot.
But even if he is successful in buying enough time for the window to close it will be interesting to see what reaction Torres receives from the Kop who adore him at Anfield in midweek.
The whole saga has overshadowed what should have been a day of positives for the Reds who, having confidently rebuffed Chelsea's approach, then clinched the deal they have been striving for throughout the whole of January.
Suarez, who has yet to pass a medical and agree personal terms, was meant to be the signing which made everything all right for Torres.
The plan was for the 24-year-old - scorer of 111 goals in 159 matches for Ajax - to provide much-needed support up front, supplementing the Spaniard not replacing him.
It is a real statement of intent from FSG and should have been a key moment in the Americans' short three-month reign.
However, keeping hold of Torres takes on even greater importance but even if they are successful whether the damage of him handing in a transfer request can ever be repaired remains to be seen.

Ajax goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg has emerged as Manchester United's top target to replace compatriot Edwin van der Sar.
Dutch veteran Van der Sar has confirmed he is retiring at the end of the season and United are expected to bring in a new keeper in the summer.

A string of names have been linked with the Premier League leaders, including Schalke's Manuel Neuer and Atletico Madrid's highly-rated young shot-stopper David De Gea.
However, Van der Sar's fellow Dutchman, and current first choice for the national team, Stekelenburg appears to be the favourite to arrive.
United coach Rene Meulensteen has revealed that Stekelenburg is currently at the top of the club's shopping list and that Ferguson has discussed the 28-year-old with Van der Sar.
"Stekelenburg is indeed the goalkeeper who is at the top of our wanted list," said Meulensteen to Voetbal International.
"We have naturally been talking a lot among ourselves about who should replace Van der Sar.
"Alex Ferguson has spoken about Stekelenburg with Edwin and that does not seem strange to me at all."

 
Bale not for sale 'at any price'

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has told Inter Milan that Gareth Bale is not for sale 'at any price', as he 'wouldn't be able to replace him'.
Reports on Thursday claimed Inter were determined to land Bale this summer in a £40million deal after being impressed by the Welsh winger in the Champions League games between the two sides this season.

Bale scored a superb hat-trick in the 4-3 defeat at the San Siro last October before running rings around Brazil full-back Maicon to inspire Tottenham to a 3-1 win at White Hart Lane in the reverse fixture the following month.
The 21-year-old, who arrived at Tottenham from Southampton in 2007 for £5million, signed a new four-year contract in May last year after reports of Inter's interest first began to emerge.
Redknapp insists Bale is too valuable to sell and is adamant any bid for his star man would be rebuffed.
"We won't be selling Gareth Bale in the summer, it's up to the chairman but I'd be very surprised if we were interested in selling him at any price," Redknapp said. "You have special players in your team and if we're going to be a top team you've got to keep your top players, you can't be selling Gareth Bale.
"You've got three or four players who can make a difference and he's one of those players.
"And, if you lose him, you can't replace him. Where are you going to replace him? You go and get one from here, one from there, another one.
"When he gets the ball something happens, he can do something that no-one else can do. We can't afford to lose him."
Spurs' push for domestic and European honours suffered a blow this week when midfield anchorman Tom Huddlestone suffered a serious setback in his recovery from an ankle injury that has kept him out since November.
The England man, who Redknapp has compared to Spurs midfield great Glenn Hoddle, had hoped to be back in action by the middle of next month.
But the setback has meant Redknapp may now be forced to drop the former Derby player from his 25-man squad if the injury proves to be serious.
"Tom's had a setback and it seems he's going to be longer than we expected," Redknapp said. "His ankle is sore. He tried to do a bit of running and is still a long way away.
"We will have to look at his situation with regard to the 25-man squad. I am hoping he'll be okay as he is important to us and is a fantastic player.
"We need him but we will have to make sure how it goes and discuss it with the medical people."
Fellow midfielders Sandro (back) and Wilson Palacios (knee) are doubts for Sunday's FA Cup game at Fulham, but Redknapp insists his injury crisis will not force him to plunge into the transfer market.
He said: "We won't get a new player. Where do you go to find a new player? It's very hard. This window is about people panic buying."
Redknapp did admit, though, that his lack of midfielders means Jermaine Jenas, who has been linked with Aston Villa, will definitely not be leaving White Hart Lane this month.
Redknapp added: "Aston Villa have never made an offer to us. We can't afford to lose anyone at the moment. We are short in that area."
Robbie Keane, who has caught the eye of Birmingham and West Ham, now looks to be staying at the club and Redknapp denied reports that he is considering dropping the Republic of Ireland hitman from his 25-man squad, which has to be submitted on Monday.
"I'm not in a desperate rush to get rid of Robbie Keane, I like Robbie Keane, I think he's a good player," Redknapp said. "If he stays he will make the 25-man squad. There's no way I would leave him out of the squad. I've got too much respect for Robbie Keane as a player and as a person."

Newcastle have reportedly rejected a new £23million bid from Tottenham for England striker Andy Carroll.
The England international has enjoyed an impressive debut season in the Premier League, bagging 11 Premier League goals before being sidelined by a thigh injury.

Carroll's displays in leading the line for the Magpies has attracted interest from a number of rival top-flight teams, with Harry Redknapp keen to bring the powerful forward to White Hart Lane.
The North East club are determined to retain the services of their star man and have rebuffed all offers for his services, with Spurs' latest offer drawing a terse response.
A high-ranking Newcastle official told Sky Sports News: "The club would like to make it clear for the very last time that Carroll is simply not for sale."
The source went on to describe the bid from Tottenham as 'paltry in the current climate'.
Magpies boss Alan Pardew has always stressed his determination to keep hold of his key players during January as he looks to establish the club back in the top flight.
And with the transfer window due to close at 11pm on Monday, it remains to be seen if Spurs will return with an improved offer.

Alex Ferguson says Dimitar Berbatov offers further proof that you do not need lightning pace to become one of the world's best strikers.
Speed has become an increasing priority in modern-day football, with Arsenal in particular keen to construct teams on players of pace.

It is not an asset that Berbatov has ever had in abundance.
Yet, after an amazing week which saw him score five goals in a four-day spell to move clear at the top of the Premier League scorers chart, Berbatov, who celebrates his 30th birthday on Sunday, is proving speed of thought is even more useful.
"Confidence is the most important thing," said Ferguson.
"Every striker is different. Teddy Sheringham had no pace. Alan Shearer had no pace either but they were great forwards. Ruud Van Nistelrooy wasn't quick but he was a really good goalscorer.
"Gary Lineker and Ian Rush were different types of player.
"It is about what happens in the penalty box. Some players are quick in the head and only need a yard.
"Allan Clarke was that kind of player for Leeds. He could move quickly in the box."
Berbatov now has 20 goals for the season in all competitions and although he is likely to be rested for tomorrow's FA Cup tie at Southampton, the Bulgarian's current form means United can expect him to increase his tally significantly before the campaign reaches its conclusion.
"It is always the case with strikers that when they are in that kind of form you hope it lasts for a long time," said Ferguson.
"He could easily get to the 30 mark."
As Berbatov now has less than 18 months remaining on the four-year contract he signed when he joined United from Tottenham for a club record £30.75million in August 2008, chief executive David Gill will presumably soon be offering a new one.
Not that Ferguson is too concerned about that situation just yet.
"Dimitar's contract is not an issue," he said.
"I don't know how long left he has got left but he is under contract at the moment."

The growing list of American midfielders plying their trade in the English Premier League has added another name.
U.S. national team midfielder Michael Bradley is joining Aston Villa on loan for the remainder of the season, sources told Fox Soccer on Saturday.

Bradley leaves German side Borussia Moenchengladbach, where he spent two seasons as a starter, and was a key figure in helping the club stay in the German Bundesliga. With Moenchengladbach facing likely relegation, and Bradley heading toward the final year of his contract, the sides orchestrated a move for the 23-year old.
Bradley joins fellow Americans Brad Friedel, Brad Guzan and Eric Lichaj on an Aston Villa side owned by American Randy Lerner. Aston Villa is currently in 13th place in the Premier League, six points clear of the relegation zone.
Bradley will face a stiff battle for playing time in an Aston Villa central midfield that includes recently-added Cameroonian midfielder Jean Makoun as well as Nigel Reo Coker and captain Stiliyan Petrov.
Bradley becomes the latest American to move to England, following the path of U.S. teammate Jermaine Jones, who recently left German club Schalke for a loan move to Blackburn. The U.S. national team midfield now boasts Bradley, Jones, Stuart Holden and Clint Dempsey as Premier League players.
The move to Aston Villa is a bit ironic considering five months ago it was Bradley's father, U.S. national team head coach Bob Bradley, who had been linked to the Aston Villa manager position.

After two and a half years as a regular starter for Moenchengladbach, Bradley has been on the bench for the team's past two matches, and now reports have surfaced quoting the club's manager as revealing that the team is open to selling the 23-year-old American.
That sale looks even more likely after Moenchengladbach completed the loan acquisition of German midfielder Michael Fink from Besiktas on Thursday. Fink is seen as a natural replacement for Bradley, who now looks destined for a move.
So where could Bradley wind up? A potential move to Sunderland seems unlikely now that Sunderland is on the verge of signing Ghanaian midfielder Sulley Muntari from Inter Milan. Reports have identified Turkish side Galatasaray and Italian club Palermo as two two teams ready to bid for Bradley.
The issue at this point is the price tag. Moenchengladbach is reportedly seeking $6.8 million for Bradley, considerably more than the $4 million reportedly offered by Galatasaray and Palermo have offered.
How did Bradley come to this point when he was one of the few bright spots on a Moenchengladbach side enduring a forgettable season? The party line from Moenchengladbach is that manager Michael Frontzeck has gone with a new system since the winter break, one which calls for a more defensive-minded defensive midfielder than Bradley is.
Whether it's a legitimate explanation or not doesn't matter at this point. What is clear is that Fink's arrival means Bradley's days are numbered and it's hard to imagine him willing to waste a half season waiting for the summer transfer window. He has to move, either via transfer or loan.
There is no shortage of interest, but Moenchengladbach's price tag might keep teams away during the winter transfer period, especially considering the fact Bradley will be down to one year left on his current Moenchengladbach deal come the summer. That means interested clubs could likely sign Bradley at a fraction of the current price, and Bradley would have more teams to choose from.

He's too much of a competitor to accept that and he also has to know that doing so could jeopardize his place with the national team, where the competition for spots in central midfield is getting tougher and tougher. With Jermaine Jones now in the picture, Stuart Holden blossoming at Bolton and Maurice Edu doing well at Rangers, Bradley's long-standing hold on a starting spot could be threatened if he spends the next four months on the bench.
So what's next for Bradley? He may be forced to settle for a short-term loan for the remainder of the season, which would hopefully mean some steady playing time before he goes on the market this summer. While there is interest from Italy and Turkey, Bradley looks destined to go to England, where fellow Americans Clint Dempsey and Holden are thriving, and where Jones is now plying his trade at Ewood Park.

A short-term loan would also help Bradley keep his form heading into the summer's CONCACAF Gold Cup. Even with all the competition on the national team in central midfield, Bradley remains a vital part of the United States squad, so having him glued to the Moenchengladbach bench for four months would hurt the Americans' chances of taking back the regional championship from Mexico.
We saw just how good Bradley can be at the 2010 World Cup, and as unsettling as his current situation is in Germany, he has already shown enough in his career an ability to adjust and thrive in new surroundings. The transfer so many expected for Bradley last summer still might come, just later than expected, and under circumstances few could have seen coming.

    Bradley needed to leave last summer. Gladbach has been fighting relegation for the past two years. At Gladbach he was never in the attack, not even on free kicks. And when he arrived late he was ignored. To sum up, Gladbach was a waste. The sooner he leaves the better.

Houston is switching to Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference this season as the league realigns to make room for expansion Portland and Vancouver.
The league said Friday that with the Timbers and Whitecaps joining the Western Conference each conference will have nine teams.
The 18-team MLS will have a balanced schedule, with each team playing all the others twice. All teams will play 17 home games and 17 road games. The league season starts March 15, with the Los Angeles Galaxy at Seattle.
Toronto and Vancouver must have at least three Canadian players on their rosters. The rule will apply to Montreal when it joins MLS for the 2012 season.

Julio aliyekuwa na timu ya U-17 Kigali, Rwanda alisema hayo kwenye Uwanja wa Karume ambako timu hiyo inajifua kujiweka sawa na mashindano mbalimbali ikiwemo ya Olimpiki.

ìKwa sasa hatuna mechi yoyote hivi karibuni, lakini nawaandaa vijana ili wajiunge na timu ya Olimpiki ya vijana chini ya miaka 23 watakaoanza mazoezi hivi karibuniî alisema Kihwelo.

Aliongeza kusema kuwa ni vizuri kuandaa timu mapema ili tusiende kuwa wasindikizaji katika michezo hiyo itakayoanza kushindaniwa kwa kanda mbalimbali za Afrika.

Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti did not want to answer questions about his club's pursuit of Fernando Torres after their FA Cup fourth-round clash at Everton.
The Londoners are thought to be preparing a second bid for the Liverpool striker after an initial offer, thought to be worth £35million, was rejected but prompted the player to make a transfer request.
Liverpool have also turned down Torres' request but it may have given Chelsea enough encouragement to move again for the 26-year-old before Monday's transfer deadline.


Yet if that is the plan, Ancelotti was remaining tight-lipped about it after his side came from behind to claim a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.
"I don't know, we will have to wait. There is no change," was all the Italian would say when asked on the matter.
Ancelotti's cup holders recovered from a poor start to the second half to maintain their grip on the FA Cup with a 75th-minute equaliser from substitute Salomon Kalou.
Everton had been rewarded for a strong spell of a pressure with a 62nd-minute opener from Louis Saha and almost claimed a second through Seamus Coleman.
The Irishman was first denied by Petr Cech as he met a Leighton Baines cross with a firm header and Michael Essien reacted quickly to prevent him tucking in the rebound.
The true value of that excellent defensive work became clear moments later.
Everton boss David Moyes said: "The team played well and I am disappointed we have not gone through.
"It all roughly hinged on a save by Petr Cech and a block by Essien.
"That could have made it 2-0 but from that corner, instead of us scoring, they scored.
"I think the pass from (Nicolas) Anelka when they broke on us was meant for Ramires, it was actually slightly behind Ramires and ran on to Kalou.
"But you give them credit for getting players forward on a counter-attack."
Both sides could have won the tie late on and thus prevented a replay at Stamford Bridge next month as Ramires hit the post and Jermaine Beckford also extended Cech.
Moyes added: "I don't think you can come away and say Chelsea were really threatening.

"I thought we looked the side who were more likely to score than Chelsea.
"Petr Cech made some really good saves and that is what goalkeepers do.
"They had one shot which hit the outside of the post late on but overall I thought the players played really well today.
"They performed well against a team that has not lost an FA Cup tie since 2008 and are Premier League
champions. I have to give the players a lot of credit."
Ancelotti had no complaints about the result, admitting his side were outplayed for spells by the hosts.
Ancelotti said: "I think a draw was the right result, we played better in the first half and they played better in the second half.
"The result was good also because we were 1-0 down and it was not easy.
"To come back into the game we had good attitude and good spirit.
"It was not easy - Everton put pressure on us all the time.
"They were very dangerous on set-pieces, used a lot of long balls and because of the sun we couldn't play from the back as we did in the first half. We lost control in the second half.
"It was important behaviour of Essien to save the goal, after that we scored the goal."
Chelsea are bidding to become the first team to win the FA Cup in three successive seasons since 1886 but Ancelotti admits getting past Everton will be tough enough.
He said: "Against Everton - every time it is a balanced game.
"We didn't win (against them) last year. We lost here and drew at home and both times this year we have drawn."

Sir Alex Ferguson admitted his tactics backfired as Manchester United were forced to come from behind to avoid an embarrassing defeat at Southampton in the FA Cup fourth round.
The npower League One side bossed the first half and deservedly broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time, with Richard Chaplow smashing Saints ahead.
However, Ferguson's introduction of Nani and Ryan Giggs 13 minutes into the second half gave United the impetus and width that had been severely lacking.


First Michael Owen levelled with his first goal since September, before Javier Hernandez ghosted in to wrap up the tie with a quarter of an hour remaining.
While the history books will show a United victory, Ferguson admits his decisions left the side on the back foot from the offset.
"Sometimes we make it difficult for ourselves but, in fairness, I maybe meddled with the system somewhat this afternoon," he told MUTV.
"We tried a diamond in the middle of the pitch and, of course, Manchester United are used to playing with width all the time and I think that was a problem for us.
"It wasn't working at all," he added.
"We had some possession of the ball but we never really threatened. We had two or three shots from the edge of the box.
"It was a nothing first half, really, and the goal, if anything, made us play.
"(Southampton) scoring the goal right on half-time motivated us a bit to do better."
Ferguson admitted the timing of Owen's goal was important to ensure the game did not get away from them, while he praised Hernandez for his clinical finishing, saying: "He only had one chance today: one chance, one goal."
The United boss also revealed that United should have their first-choice back four for the clash with Aston Villa on Tuesday, with Rafael, Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand likely to return.
Southampton manager Nigel Adkins, meanwhile, expects precocious winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to remain at St Mary's for the rest of the season.

Speculation over the 17-year-old's future has been rife throughout January, with Arsenal and Liverpool mooted as a potential destination.
However, Adkins insists that Southampton have no intention of selling him despite interest from some of the Barclays Premier League elite.
"We are not envisaging selling him, we're not looking to sell him," he said after the match. "We don't want to sell him.
"I think it is beneficial for him to be playing regularly for Southampton in the Football League, giving him a chance to develop.
"Yes, he is well courted and you can see today that he has ability about him. Southampton Football Club are not looking to sell Alex Chamberlain."
Adkins admitted he would not be surprised if Ferguson enquired about Oxlade-Chamberlain when they spoke later on, but the Saints boss insists the clash with Exeter remains his primary focus.
"There is always going to be mass speculation; there has been throughout the transfer window," he said.
"It shuts at 11 o'clock on Monday evening and there will be mass speculation all the way up until then.
"All we can do is control the controllables, which is getting Alex ready with the group in preparation for a very big game for this football club on Tuesday night at Exeter."

    Gibson is not a Manchester United player. He has one quality and most times he doesn't even do it well. Wes and John, although, not as sharp as the others, their role in the Manchester United's system is important (ie Park).

    Don't get me wrong I love Wes Brown and have watched him contribute over the years and he doesn't complain and makes for a good utilitarian. There in lies my problem with him.....he wants to be a CB but can't beat out Evans?? and now even Smalling?? He made a great right back, but can't even beat out Raphael??

    Nothing against Wes, but we need player that will challenge those ahead of them...period! SAF needs to bring in a striker, attacking midfielder, wing midfielder, defender and goalie this summer for this squad to be complete! I have no doubt he will.

    Brown and O'Shea are great utility players. They never complain. Try to the job assigned to them and offer insurance when players are injured. I'm more the content with having them on the team. Evans and Gibson, no go......

    Anderson is quality, he just needs time and even to this point, he has been performing decent and thats an understatement. its far too soon to label Smallings, he's played a few games and needs time.

    Gibson and Evans just don't cut it. They've had more then their fair share of chances and have failed to impress me. The rest of the team is solid. A few additions and United will be soaring.

    Gibson, Anderson are the problem. Anderson, as a Brazilian, should be good in creating but he isn't. I have no expectation on him when he is in the field. He neither provide killer pass nor passing the defenders. He is just one player in the field.
    MU cannot play diamond as their midfield players are so-so. To play diamond, all the midfield players must be very good in passing among themselves to create chance to the forward. MU is a wide side team and their attacks are always generated from both sides.

    I agree Gibson should be sold. Dont know about Evans maybe, but selling Wes would be dumb just as O'shea would. Two professionals that are okay with playing second fiddle and are quit versatile when it comes to positioning in the back line. When are we going to start seeing Ravel and Pogba in Cup fixtures?

    Hey Mikey, if you label Evans, Smalling, Gibson, Obertan, Anderson and even O'Shea as "quality" then we got bigger issues than we think.
