Mazengo Queens yapiga mkwara Taifa Cup

TIMU ya netboli ya Mkoa wa Dodoma ‘Mazengo Queens' imejigamba na imezitahadharisha timu pinzani za Tanzania Bara zinazoshiriki michuano ya Taifa Cup iliyoanza kutimua vumbi jana Kibaha, mkoani Pwani.
Akizungumza na Tanzania daima Katibu wa Chama cha Netboli Mkoa wa Dodoma (CHANEDO), Carolina Kimwaga alisema kuwa, timu yake iko katika hali nzuri na imejipanga vema kuhakikisha inatetea ushindi wao walioupata mwaka jana katika michuano hiyo.
Katibu huyo alisema kuwa, hadi sasa timu hiyo haina majeruhi yeyote na wachezaji wote wako katika hali nzuri na wana kila sababu na kufanya vizuri katika kinyang'anyiro hicho.
Alisema, pamoja na timu kukabiliwa na changamoto za utafutaji wa fedha kwa ajili ya uendeshaji, lakini bado wachezaji wamekuwa na morali na kujituma, kitendo kinachotia moyo.
Kimwaga alisema, timu imeagwa rasmi juzi na uongozi wa mkoa pamoja na wadau, mbele ya Katibu Tawala wa Mkoa Rehema Madenge, ambaye aliwataka wachezaji kutowaangusha na kuhakikisha kombe hilo linaendelea kubaki mjini Dodoma.
Alisema, uongozi wa mkoa umekuwa mstari wa mbele katika kuisaidia timu hiyo kwa kuiwezesha katika masuala mbalimbali, ikiwemo jezi, mipira na vifaa vingine.
Pia katibu huyo hakusita kuwashukuru wahisani wengine ambao ni mke wa Waziri Mkuu Tunu Pinda, ambaye amekuwa akiwasaidia kuwapa vifaa mbalimbali pamoja na wadau wa michezo Mkoa wa Dodoma.
Naye nahodha wa Mazengo Queens, Flora Odilo, aliwahakikishia wakazi wa Dodoma ushindi wa kishindo, kwani timu imefanya mazoezi ya kutosha hivyo iko katika morali wa ushindi.

Mnyika, Azzan waibeba netiboli Konondoni

WABUNGE Idd Azzan wa Kinondoni na John Mnyika wa Ubungo wameipiga tafu timu ya netiboli ya Kinondoni inayoshiriki mashindano ya taifa ya mchezo huo yanayoendelea kwenye uwanja wa Shule ya Sekondari ya Filbert Bayi, Kibaha, mkoani Pwani.
Akizungumza na mwandishi wa habari hizi jana, Katibu Mkuu wa Chama cha Netiboli Kinondoni (CHANEKI), Michael Maurus, alisema, msaada huo utafanikisha ushiriki bora wa timu yao katika mashindano hayo.
Maurus alisema, msaada huo uliotolewa na wabunge hao ni pamoja na chakula, usafiri na posho kwa wachezaji wanaoshiriki katika mashindano hayo.
Aidha katika mashindano hayo ya Taifa Cup yanayoendelea katika viwanja hivyo, ilishuhudiwa Dodoma ikiiadhibu Mtwara kwa magoli 43-19, ambapo hadi nusu ya kwanza washindi walikuwa mbele kwa magoli 22-9.
Katika mchezo mwingine, Morogoro iliiadhibu Lindi kwa magoli 35-7 ambapo hadi nusu ya kwanza Morogoro ilikuwa mbele kwa magoli 16-6, huku Mwanza ikiigaragaza Arusha 25-17.

Phiri extends Simba stay

COACH Patrick Phiri has pledged his future to Simba, signing a two-year contract extension that will keep him at the Msimbazi Street Premier League club until the end of the 2012.

"We have successfully completed contract negotiations, and Phiri has signed a new two-year contract," Simba chairman Ismail Aden Rage told a news conference at the club's headquarters along Msimbazi Street in Dar es Salaam on Friday.

Phiri's previous contract was due to expire in January next year, but the club already expressed their desire to continue their marriage with the Zambian tactician.

"I'm very happy that we've managed to hold on to him, and Phiri's contract renewal was one of our main priorities," said Rage who also serves as legislator for Tabora Urban.

"It was not difficult to reach this agreement; he deeply loves this club and his commitment is as strong as ever, he knows that the club and the fans love him too," Rage said.

Rage could not reveal the package involved in the new contract, "how much he is going to earn remains a secret between him and the club." Phiri, the former head coach of Zambia's Chipolopolo, won his second Premier league title with Simba last season after winning the crown in his first tenure in 2004.

Phiri's charges romped to the title unbeaten in their campaign, winning 20 and drawing two matches, last season.

The current campaign has seen the defending champions once again in control of the title race. After the first round, Simba sit top of the league table on 27 points, with their closest challengers and archrivals occupying second place on 25 points.

And Rage appreciated the work done so far. He said: "The coach has done a good job during the first round. We had lunch with him and passed our gratitude for what he has done,"

In another development, Rage confirmed that, Simba and Yanga are in joint talks with the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) and the Ministry of Information, Youth, Culture and Sports on the possibility of moving their league matches to the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

"We have submitted a joint letter to the ministry, asking for their permission to use the National Stadium, because it cost us dearly playing outside Dar es Salaam. We're currently involved in talks with the ministry and the TFF. In case these talks fail to bear fruits, then we'll ask TFF to share with us the travelling costs.

"TFF take 18 per cent from gate collections, which is a big sum. Worst enough clubs are forced to pay VAT. The introduction of VAT has resulted to a rise of tickets price, which has adversely affected turn ups in stadiums, as fans no longer affords to purchase tickets. We're now experiencing a massive drop of gate collections."

Rage seized the opportunity to congratulate the newly appointed General Secretary of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), Angetile Osiah, promising him of Simba's full support. Rage also insisted that they have reached agreement with their traditional archrivals, Yanga, to support each other during international matches.

"We have agreed to put our differences aside and support each other during international games, it is high time we should get rid of old-fashioned rivalry," he said, explaining that whenever one club loses in their international matches, it is the loss for the country's football.

Meanwhile, Simba have printed 10,000 shirts that will be sold to club fans at 15,000/- each, with the bid to raise about 100m/- needed to solicit the license of a land plot located in Bunju area, in the outskirts of Dar es Salaam, where the club plans to build a 30,000-seater ultra modern stadium.

The Harambee Stars Management Board, which will be responsible for running the affairs of the national team, will be launched next week, Sports Minister Paul Otuoma has said.

He spoke after opening this year’s East Africa University Games at Kenyatta University on Friday.

Kenyatta University’s senior sports administrator, Peninah Wahome, said this year’s edition will be graced by the world’s anti-doping agency.

“We were to launch the board today (Friday) but due to commitments we are planning to have that event next week, probably on Monday,” said Otuoma.

“Those to take over the management of the board shall be men and women of integrity, in line with the new Constitution in the chapter of integrity,” he added.

It will be the third time the government is coming in to form a board to manage the national team. The first time it happened, Stars made it to the Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia in 2004.

Kenya pooled with Uganda in Africa Games

Harambee Stars' rivalry with Uganda Cranes is set to continue when they face each other in the 2011 All Africa Games qualifiers.

Following CAF draws held this week in Cairo, Stars will also face Tanzania and Eritrea in other Group ‘E' matches.

The qualifiers, which will take place between January - July 2011, will determine the eight teams for both men and women's competitions.

The Games will be held between September 3-18 in Maputo, Mozambique.

In the African Cup of Nations qualifiers, Harambee Stars are grouped together with Uganda, Angola and Guinea Bissau.

Kenya will also be represented in women qualifiers where they host Sudan between June 24-26, 2011.

Zone A (men); Algeria, Libya.

Zone B: Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Mali and Senegal.

Zone C: Benin, Ghana, Liberia and Nigeria.

Zone D: Cameroon, Congo RD and Gabon.

Zone E: Eritrea, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

Zone F: Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Zone G: Madagascar and Seychelles.
