The Minister of State in the President’s Office for Regional Administration and Local Government, Mohamed Mchengerwa, has urged all candidates who are dissatisfied with the nomination of candidates for various positions in the upcoming Local Government Elections.

He made these remarks today, November 8, 2024, while speaking to the media about the candidate nominations at the Ministry’s offices in Dodoma.

“As you know, today is an important day for the nomination of candidates for the Local Government Elections according to Regulation 18 of Government Notice No. 571, 573, 574, and Regulation 17 of Government Notice No. 572, all dated July 12, 2024,” said Mchengerwa.

“These regulations require the Assistant Election Officer to conduct the nomination of candidates today, November 8, 2024, from 2:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Once the nomination process is complete, the names of eligible candidates and those who do not meet the qualifications will be publicly displayed so that the public, including the candidates themselves, can see them,” he added.

He further explained that according to these regulations, anyone who applied for nomination and is dissatisfied with the decision made by the Assistant Election Officer can file an objection and request the Assistant Election Officer to review the decision to either nominate them as a candidate or annul their disqualification.

This objection must be submitted in writing within two days after the decision or nomination has been made. The Assistant Election Officer will address the objection and make a decision within two days of receiving it.

“Therefore, according to these regulations, starting today, November 8, and tomorrow, November 9, 2024, any candidate who is dissatisfied with the decision made by the Assistant Election Officer regarding their nomination must utilize these two days for their complaints to be addressed according to the regulations,” Mchengerwa emphasized.

Additionally, he stated that if a candidate is not satisfied with the Assistant Election Officer’s decision regarding their objection, they have the right to appeal to the Appeals Committee within a period of no more than four days after the decision is made. This means appeals should be submitted between November 10 and 13, 2024, to the Appeals Committee.
