Maze bana I want to get into the IT field. The world of Finance is super-boring; no new discoveries.

How can i get access to conferences and stuff?

what is the best way to go about it? I'm currently self-learning.

What does iHub do? any alternatives?

Hey dude do you have to start a thread like this...hehehehe!
Take it to the inbox/PM, unless you want wider participation by public, but will attract haters too.

By the way a guy like you with a background in finance can really have fun in ICT world. You can pick on stuffs like ERPs and enjoy the ride. Such guys with knowledge in both worlds are so scarce and are making a killing. I've struggled through the years to master finance and accounting, human resource, procurement etc especially when implementing ERPs.

So for you changing from finance into ICT will be real fun, personally I've changed careers a lot and when I discovered IT and became a coder, it's been nothing but thrill.
Yeah you can visit hubs such as i-Hub, m-Lab, FabLab and Sam's NaiLab, especially i-Hub, there you'll get to learn a lot, it's a very good community where everybody fits in.

I've learn't that if i have to kick out ignorance, i must not be afraid of showing it. Mficha uchi hazai. Haters ni lazima. Someoen just told me that there was a super-charged conference yesterday and today hosted by iHub that had a blazing all-Kenyan crew. Guys as young as 25 doing amazing stuff.

And to imagine I'm struggling with Javascript; hehe. Lakini kulisha familia ndio kazi.

One step at a time bro, halafu I'd suggest you don't begin with Javascript, better take your time to dig through C or C++ or even Java as they will instill some programming discipline or principles into your career. Then from there you can proceed into pursuing what we term as full stack coder. Couple that with your background in finance, only distant planet will your limit.

Thanks. I've received similar advice elsewhere; I think that's what I'll follow.
