Moon Dubai, a $5 billion destination resort in the form of a celestial body could arrive in Dubai as proposed by Canadian architectural company and intellectual property licensor Moon World Resorts Inc. (MWR)
Proposed and co-founded by Sandra G. Matthews and Michael R. Henderson, the moon-shape resort is designed to be built in 48 months. It will have an overall height of 735 feet (224 metres), and is predicted to bring in 2.5 million guests annually. When constructed, Moon Dubai is expected to add to the Emirate's economy in sectors such as hospitality, entertainment, attractions, education, technology, the environment and space tourism, Henderson said.
The resort's 10-acre lunar surface is said to include an authentic "lunar colony" and is aimed at those looking for affordable access to explore space tourism and is designed to evoke the sensation of being on the surface of the Moon. The Moon will also accommodate a training platform for various space agencies and their respective astronauts, focussing on leading-edge architecture, engineering, design, and technology. The destination will also include 300 private residential units housed internally within the main superstructure disc buildings dubbed "Sky Villas", available for purchase granting the owners membership to an exclusive private club at the resort.
Guests visiting the Moon Dubai will be gratified with various luxurious amenities such as the spa and wellness section, a nightclub, event centre, global meeting place, lounge and an in-house "moon shuttle," of which details are yet to be revealed.
"Moon Dubai will be the largest and most successful modern-day tourism project within the entire MENA region, doubling annual tourism visitations to Dubai based on its global appeal, brand awareness and unique multiple integrated offerings," Moon World Resorts' Mathews and Henderson said in a conversation with Arabian Business.
The Moon presumably aims to replicate the success of Emaar's Burj Khalifa, which has effectively put the UAE on the map.
Henderson also revealed their plans to make the Moon a reality as they spoke to Arabian Business. Currently, Moon World Resorts Inc. is planning a 2023 global road-show series where they will showcase the Moon to potential regional licensees. One such show will take place in the MENA region, potentially Dubai, UAE, with other options including KSA, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait. He added, "Once the single MENA regional licence has been consummated and the precise location has been chosen, a one-year pre-development program will be initiated followed by a four-year build-out program."
Moon World Resorts Inc. intend to permit four Moon destination resorts around the globe (known as regional licences), one in each of the following regions of North America, Europe, MENA and Asia.
The UAE has also been reported as exploring opportunities surrounding celestial bodies, developing satellite communications technology and deploying the latest space technologies in terrestrial applications. Recently, the country earmarked $820 million to fund ambitious space plans, with initial plans to build satellites, according to Arabian Business.
Out-of-this-world architecture has now become a symbol of the UAE's ambitious goal to be regarded as one of the most innovative countries in the world.
