Medical Store Department of Tanzania (MSD) has started to implement President John Magufuli order of opening medical stores at every government hospital, starting with Muhimbili National Hospital on next Monday.
MSD Director General, Laurean Bwanakunu said they have already set strategies for opening the shops and that they are currently seeking permission from hospitals, areas to build shops and other regulations of set for starting a medical store.
Muhimbili management gave us the permit and currently we are finalizing last steps to open the store on Monday, he said.
He said the store will have all drugs which are listed by the health insurance and will provide services to all customers attended at the hospital and those from outside hospitals.
Bwanakunu also said that after Muhimbili, the second shop will be opened in Mbeya.
Earlier this month, after the impromptu visit of President Magufuli at MNH, he ordered MSD to open stores at the hospital saying private stores which are operating around the hospital are selling medicines in high prices.
